Thoughts on Dragon Dawn
Here are my thoughts on the Dragon Dawn patch

1. Love the horde feature. This is amazing. It plays into my horder mentality. I currently have 179 items which is pumping out an additional 870 mana per turn <3

2. Disappointed with the dragons. Why? I love how the humanoid rulers start as normals of their races and change over time. A prime example of this is in my current play through, I have a dark dwarf as a neighbor. First he started showing lightning all over himself, and now he has stone skin all over himself. This is awesome! but the dragons are same from start to finish. They shoudl change, but I understand how ancient dragons got to look cool from the start and how to make them look awesomer is hard, but for me going forward I'll play with the horder feature with all humanoid rules (at least I hope I can do this).

3. Having boat loads of fun, but have onyl been playing from 1 week before Dragon Dawn drop so I'm not sure what else changed, but the game is still super fun <3

- they do change when you choose signature skils on 4 and 12 levels.

I did not get the DLC. but I assumed they started smaller, like wyverns, and slowly grew bigger and more powerful.

- im fairly sure that they dont do that. Alas you can change their appearance in any moment just like with any other ruler or hero.

Dragons absolutely do change over time. But it's based on affinity signature skill choices. They don't grow, although that would have been cool.

That said, Dragons are an absolute beast on the battlefield from beginning to end. And once they hit their second transformation, watch out.

Item Horder is a bit broken; I am earning >1.5k mana per turn and have over 50k mana in my pool in my current playthrough as 1-city evil dudes.

Level 12 dragons looks absolutely amazing. Level 4 is the minor transformation, and level 12 is the major transformation. Level 8 and 16 are treated like normal hero/ruler signature abilities.

You can mix and match the Dragon type, Minor transformation, and the Major transformation or go all in on one.

Overall I'm loving it. I'm not sure if I like Wizard Kings or Dragon Lords more at this point, they're both super fun. Dragon Lords do definitely feel like they have more personality though, with how extensive the character creator is for them. Though the lack of wing options is killing me, I'm dying for some feathered or insectoid wings. Champions still need a serious overhaul though imo, sure they've got a few "hidden" perks like gaining extra affinity from the "Mark of X" events but even then they don't come close to the other leaders.

I like the horde too, its both fun and flavorful which is always a plus in my book. But I definitely think its something that's going to need rebalancing at some point. It hasn't been OP in any of my games so far, but I think the future Item Forge might tip the scales on that lol

Also glad cavalry units are so much more common. It kind of felt like you were wasting the body trait taking an exotic mount before unless it was the spiders or wolves. Now I can finally ride my unicorns guilt free.

kind of strange that lizards keep getting cut out of the main game as tehy were one of the starting races sence the first one

Nope, they have a lot more sliders than the racial forms do, which allows you to radically customize how big or small they are.

For example, with minimal sliders, they're roughly about the size of a Tier 3 unit, while on maximum sliders, their size can outclass anything smaller than a Giant.

Not me. Oppoents. All the humanoid apponents change but Dragons do not. I do nto want to be a Dragon. I am a Cat Lord Ascend and will always be that.

The first transformation at level 4 gives them a glowing effect on their chest and neck.

The second transformation at level 12 is far more noticeable in appearance and even adds a new trait to the dragon's unit type.

Chaos gains Fiend

Order gains Celestial

Shadow gains Undead

Nature gains Plant

Astral gains Ethereal

Materium gains Elemental

Honestly the first DLC was great, the dragon rulers are loads of fun and an unexpected amount of effort was put into their visuals.

While I heartily do not recommend the base game as it's just pitiful compared to Planetfall or 3, if you are enjoying 4, then the dragon DLC is well worth it.
