But, unfortunately, the developer is Triumph Studios, the same people who made AoW 3.
The same people who gave us a whopping 2 DLC expansions, and then promptly moved on to something else.
Thing is, if you take a look on the gameplay videos, review articles and dev diaries - you can see that this is the most mainstream AoW game to date, giving you lots of options to mix and match, the design was made for lots of customizability to attract a new playerbase (which is not a bad thing), but the way that the game is so open ended, gives me the impression that they wanna keep the support going with more content in form of DLC down the line. If you take a moment to read what each announced DLC adds, it's basically more and more tomes of magic, species and empire options (not exactly new mechanics or something with more depth).
However - and this is only speculation - i believe they are going to release the announced DLC during 2023 and perhaps early 2024 and then mid-2024 more DLC to be announced if things went well with their sales
??? 2 expansions that added a ton to the game, plus many many patches
wait, you actually WANT the paradox way of dlc bloat? I can count on one hand the number of people who actually like that
Constant stream of DLC means that the devs continue to support the game and make improvements over the years, instead of shoving it out the door ignoring it after a couple years.
I'll admit, not ALL of their DLC's are worth the investment. But many of them are, having introduced various QoL improvements to their games, as well as new content to enjoy.
Plus the DLC's they've already listed in the pass all sound awesome. If they keep up that level of quality, then I would be very satisfied with the 'DLC bloat.'
That was before Paradox bought them out. Paradox model is to keep producing DLC for a game as long as it sells well. If we buy it Paradox will tell them to make more until we don't. Considering the customization is basically fantasy Stellaris the Paradox influence is already all over the game.
Planetfall was nearly done before Paradox bought them out. Like I said with AOW4 it's more obvious Paradox told them to make it in a way that supports adding years worth of DLC packs. We will see how it goes. If it doesn't sell then yeah they will move on.
