localisation and censorship: which games have been fixed?
ie with a official patch, or mods that remove censored and every silly change for "western audiences"

there is no censorship there is nothing to fix.

People took things way out of content and blew things way out of portion when talking about that and this game was not even part of that discussion

im not asking only about this game, but about the series: thats why i used "games" rather than "this game"

i ignore if some dialogues or sections have been "changed for western audiences", but its known its common with many jrpgs, from minor to bigger changes, and maybe if this game isnt affected, there were other games in the series that may have.

thats what im asking: which are known to have been affected by poor localisation, or intentional bad translations, or have content removed or changed in some form. and then, of those, which have been fixed with mods.

i would like to play this series at some point, but free of that "westernised" bs. a long ago i played chrono trigger and enjoyed it, but years later, after comparing the patched version that restores censored and changed dialogues. i think those changes were absurd, and the modded version makes more sense and is better

I dont know if you are one of those anti-woke radicals, one of those anti-censored weirdos, just someone who is upset with any kind of localization or someone who doesn't know the difference between localization and translation. If you pick or not this series. Is up to you. It worth it. Just please don't bring unnecessary drama to this series.

This series havent suffer of those kind of complaints. Well, maybe there was a bunch of people who complained about not using the "meme dialogues" from a fan-made localization or people who want localization use "honorifics" for names.

if you read more carefully my previous comment, you will know i know the difference. i appreciate translations as close to the original source, even when they may need to include local references to food, jokes, and so on.

i dislike(d) "localisations" because often they do a poor job, and insert things that sometimes contradict the original traits of characters or mood of a scene.

what im asking is a common and old topic, not "unnecessary drama". so again, here it goes:

its a fair question:
i just want to know if the games havent been affected by poor translation (intentionally or not bad or inaccurate). and in the case some games in the series were, if there are known fan made translations which often are better than official ones.

thats kind of what im asking about. as i commented earlier, sometimes minor elements may be "adapted" to local censorship, and may not affect the general mood of the game, but the games are still better without them.

just like the example of chrono trigger:
the american version removes references to alcohol, which is not a big deal, but the dialogues and behaviours or characters make more sense if the correct translation is reintroduced. sometimes localisations are worse, and do impact the setting and lore.

true words.

another example or "intentional mistranslations" could be the multiple times anime censors have not only changed dialogues with inadequate jokes or comments (to say it "nicely"), but also introduced manually distorted elements into the animations, such as lollipops to replace cigarettes, because the geniuses (idiots) dont get most anime series are meant for teenagers and young adults, which are usually are at least smart enough to understand that the characters behave according to their supposed age and roles, and not meant to be taken as examples for everything, like toddlers or younger children without some deeper level of self-awareness. and thats because for many of them, including voice actors, they believed "cartoons are only for kids" (so thats also why few actually tried to do a good job at "acting" while doing voice overs)

and that was already bad, when most censors werent "woke activists", because the dei pushing bs was less visible and just beginning to hijack corporations and businesses. things went worse after that, but it seems things are slowly beginning to improve a little, and maybe the trump gov will find how to make illegal to push dei bs (because in practice, it actually is against fairness, and is racism and classism meld together).

one thing is to self-censor, according to your own beliefs, and another enforcing those, or supporting censorship in entertainment meant for public consumption, or even education. historical revisionism, and most forms of censorship are often as bad or even worse than "burning books" (even when in very few cases, when their content is propaganda, it may be a valid action when dealing with psyops and "psychological warfare").
