Good job; really needs English dub though.
I'm actually surprised... I'd come to associate NIS(A) name with dubious ports... but this seems really well done.

The PC only options are quite pleasant to encounter & seem well thought out.

The only thing it's missing to make it a gold level game is an English dub; it's jarring to go from Trails of Cold Steel with good voice actors to this which... well I can't tell if they're good voice actors or not because I can't understand them at all.

The english dub would likely have made the costs untenable, zero and azure's translations are based off the geofront patch, to be clear NISA was considering not even selling this one and as good as zero and azure are, they are likely not going to sell as well as trails of reverie as cold steel and ys are the ones many newer fans of falcom are used to.

Just a fyi, if i remember right, the original pc version of this game doesn't even have japanese voices, the voices are likely the evo version voices, which already probably added onto the cost of localizing it, not entirely sure on it though.
for as old as this game is yes it should have english and there really is not a good excuse as to why they wasted a decade and not consider english at all in the whole decade, hmmm..... smells a little fishy to me.
good job

The PsP ( so original version) didn't have any voice outside of combat voice lines and a very, very few lines outside of it ( mostly reuse of combat voice lines when it fitted ). It's the version I originally played so can confirm that. The vita version however, had them afaik, yes.

There might be a chance that can be added as a patch. (They should patch the PS4 version to have the PC enhancements)

I will never understand why anyone would use a dub over a sub given the choice.

The first step is just asking someone. You might find out it's just a preference or they might just have a much bigger reason.

well i don't know if anyone else has this issue, but i have trouble reading one language while hearing a different one at the same time, i could turn off voices but then game sounds eerily silent

Well this is much better than their own disgaea stuff... I haven't actually made it into the NIS(A) Trails stuff. Lacrimosa options I'd say are average at best.

Anything with PH3 attached assume it's gonna be good. Disgaea ports weren't terrible besides 1 I'd say. They went back and added network features to disgaea 4.

If you are non-english native speaker I get that. Reading one language, doing some internal translation, while hearing another spoken language is surely jarring, since a Chinese friend explained why he waits for chinese subbed anime.

I love to listen to the japanese. These games are heavily influenced by the culture that produced them and you can get a taste of that just by listening enough.

I took this a step too far with CS1. Copied the (extra) english dub files into the ♥♥♥ folder, and got to listen to a wierd mix of the two for the entire game. THAT was jarring.

Neither could I when I first watched Star Trek: TNG and Doctor Who on the BBC. Times change, and at this point its been a few decades since I've learnt and even mastered the English language. If you are never open to listening to another language, then you will never come to appreciate that language either.

That's fine for you personally, but if everyone did that.. well then English wouldnt have become a big international language either.

If you are fluent in a language you dont have to do internal translation at all. So this would only effect people that understand a language to a good (enough to be able to read) decree, but aren't fluent in it.

I did that too. I found it was a pretty amusing way to play through the games.
I recall one time Rean said something in Japanese and some random soldiers ask ''What did you say?!'' in English. Ahaha.:ys_dana:

As I'm trying to learn both English and Japanese (if I stick with just one language my options would be allways limited), I pretty much prefer the voices as they are now. In fact, each time I have the option I turn the voices back to the original, not only in games but also films and series. It worked well to English and Spanish to the point that I don't even need portuguese subs anymore. Japanese and French, on the other hand... well, someday I'll be there.

My point is, that's really a matter of personal preferences, so nobody is really right or wrong. The ideal would be if both options where available, but ideals are entirely different from reality, so I'm just glad that the localization finally was made.
