How to copy my home island into the Island Creator?

Is there a way to transfer my home island back into the Island Creator?

I created this island in the Island Creator, and that version is still there. However, I found the Island Creator interface too clumsy to be able to do precision building of structures and so forth. So, I spawned the custom island into the world, and built all the structures on it for sailing and shelter and so on. Now, I would like to transfer it back into the Island Creator for use as a starting point for a family of custom islands. I would also like to upload this version to the Steam Workshop.

I tried simply copying the island file, and it showed up as a selectable choice, but the Creator hung while trying to load the island. I tried again after removing the Home Island kite, in case that was the problem, still got hung.

If there is some editing in the JSON file that is required to make it compatible, I'm comfortable with that.

After further research, this appears to be impossible. The file formats are just too different, and there are problems with constructed items.
