I wasted the ones I found in chests and really took my time. I've explored most places and can't seem to find any more chests. I am worried I got stuck.
Alternatively you can take the option that might break your soul, and create a creative world just to brew some. It would be more time efficient but could cheapen your overall experience.
Any improvement on this? I'm on the big island that needs a coated sword to access an area but I have 1 fungicide left in inventory *. I've gone to many nearby islands and frankly it's becoming a bit demoralising speed running loads of other islands hoping to find some (and knowing I need a ton more to actually complete the research). I'm also concerned that clearing infested islands while looking is then going to mean I'll have none left when I do get a coated sword.
I don't want the game to destroy the exploration/discovery at its core but these situations, IMO, need to be minimised. In this case, after unlocking tier 1 there should be a way of crafting fungicide. Maybe it's expensive to do so and the game says it's better to harvest with a coated sword but damn.
* I only have one because the game, as soon as completing tier 1 research puts you straight into tier 2. As I had no use for Fungicide at that time I just put what I had, but 1, into that.
But all that matters here to me is when you said "demoralize"... this game is in EA but I hate the idea that its bothering you that much when all you did was explore a lot. EA needs better balancing of this IMO... giving you the coater earlier, or simply removing the need to use a coated sword so early... so here is one way out for you:
Say a prayer to the Aloft gods asking for intercession on your behalf (I do this for fun)
Hit "F1" key.
Type "give 800 10", which will should give you 10 Myker Fungicide
Repeat as necessary
Create a new world and go there with your character - skills and everything on you goes with you. Hit a few islands to get what you need, maybe some Knowledge Stones too, then go back to your main world.
There are far more knowledge stones and anchors then there are stuff to learn. They are also biome specific.
(I've finished all current content and been to every single island in game currently with no roadblocks. There was only a single island in the starting zone that I couldn't fix due to bugs)
Appreciate the response (and others that offered help). To be clear, I did spend a few hours opening chests (leaf, wood, hidden and keyed) with not a single yellow mushy to be found. Perhaps I'm unlucky, maybe some sort of bug but damn it was indeed getting very annoying to the point that if I didn't get a reply on this thread I was just going to park the game until a few updates came out.
Not a fan of prayer but in this case I think I've prepaid my pennence. :)
Thanks again.
So here is the story.
Perform prayer. Look at popup showing 10 Myketer Fungicide added.
WAIT A MINUTE!!!
I have loads of that! Indeed I've found it many times as people suggested.
Go to coating station and WITH IT IN MY INVENTORY it appears as a coating option.
So yes, I'm a dumbo thinking Intact Myketer Sample was what I needed for the coating.
Being a dumbo aside, I will ask the Dev to address a couple of things that led me down this blunderous path.
1. Please, everything else wirelessly pulls from storage. Why doesn't the Upgrade Station?
2. Can items that are discovered or recipes learnt get an entry in the encyclopedia?
Again thanks all for everyone's help. Off now to whip out my coated sword.
