Smaller Boat-Island Possible?
Hi :mgoat:,

I was wondering, I really would like to have a small boat Island to make some really fast travels and not use the Big Flagship for every island in a cluster.

Would it be possible to catch a smaller island and hook it to the Mothership? Would be awesome!

Have fun :MMForFun: :handhorns:

i just park in the middle and use my glider, you can get some really good speed going if you re-boost when it's in the white bit of the refill meter

You can't hook islands together. But you can make home islands disappear when you want. And you can make them rematrerialise them near you when you want. So you can swap from one to another.

Yeah, but I'd like to steer something as well^^

Also, maybe I need to drive against the wind to another cluster just for recconaisance and want to keep my Main Island where it is. Or want to go back to an older Island against he wind.

A little bit more freedom.

Also, it would be nice to have maybe a small water-island close by, in case your island doesn't have one. Maybe some other things your main Island dont have and you find a smaller perfect fitting island. :steamhappy:

As was said above, you cant hook islands together (maybe one day I hope). but in the meantime you can freely despawn #1 island and respawn #2 ... then despawn #2 and respawn #1 as much as you want. They are independent islands with their own storage, etc unless you want to move things over to a 3rd island temporarily (which is what I do a lot). For what its worth, these are my two for this playthrough.

NOTE: since I am currently more interested in testing actual game progression changes in recent patches, I dont take advantage of the blueprints you can pick up off these islands. (The hidden chests are a nice puzzle though). Also... note the mini island can be easily cleared, and does have water.

I've played a lot this way in creative mode, having a "home island base" with a very fast small ship. There is a very small island next to that last island in the starter cluster, and a slightly larger one with water on it, and either make awesome little sprinters. These slip through the rock barriers usually with no damage at all, although once I had a rock act like a homing missile.
Beware though, there are issues with this.
1st) Nope, cannot pull another island along. But that would be a great addition I have hoped for.
2) Very important: Which do you make "Home"? If you make your base island home then you will not respawn on your sprinter. If you've taken your runabout ship a long distance and something happens then you have a grind to retrieve it, esp if you take it through the barrier and something happens (like jumping from it to an island but suddenly falling to your death for no apparent reason). You will ALWAYS respawn on your tagged island. I wish it was more like Minecraft's "last bed" system with the option to teleport/respawn to "home island"
3) If you make your runabout home then animal transportation becomes a serious chore, but if you played the demo a lot you are used to that.
4) Resources. You will need a lot of storage on the ship, and the grind of transfer to your home base can get tedious.

For me, esp since I like to build big "communities" with homes and businesses and farms, the sprinter exploration ship will always be my play style. And I just accept that recovering from an "accident" is going to be a pain.

This is what I dont understand; I dont have your problem #2. Both of my islands have kites, and the one I log off (or die) with is the one I get put back on again. When I despawn island #1, I dont have a "home" with a kite for a minute; when I spawn in island#2... I have a home with a kite again. They never co-exist. Now.. I am not using the default game islands; I am always using the workshop ones so far. I wouldnt think that would make a difference, but maybe it does? It doesnt seem like there should be any limit to the number of home worlds you can have as long as you are willing to accept having only one at a time.... I should try to add home#3 and home#4 using default islands....

Its true that there is an inconvenience aspect to this, especially with resources, since each island has its own storage, and my own inventory (or a temporary nearby island with some quick storage made) is the only way to transport resources between the two. I dont think that can be improved right now.

But if I land on an island and find an animal I want, and I want it on my other island... I just stop right there and despawn/respawn to the right one, and auto-transport my animal onto it. If anything, I am starting to think that if I am running around picking up animals, I shouldnt be in the fast little IBI island anyway...

Wow, that is all very creative approach.
Hmmm.
It all does seem a work-around, but as for me, I'd hope the devs work out a better system.
Your approach is smart but would break my immersion. I very much like not just a home island, but a home "space" to return to, and not teleport it around with me. Further, my "home base" consists of several islands, one that fits farming, one that fits lumber, etc, with a central "community hub" island. Your system, awesome for your play style would become tedious in mine.

An island where my animals can graze free-range grasslands. An island for farmers to grow crops for a community instead of a few personal plots, and so on, all pulled close together, that is how I immerse myself in building.
I can see that; IMO I think I would give my approach up if we could just tether 2 islands together. :)

If/when I start another run, likely if there is big update, I may try your approach to start with, but transition to mine once I really am ready to "base build".
I think when the game insisted I could only have one home base, and that it was stored separately, that shut down my exploration in that area.
I wish you could have more than one home island as it seems an arbitrary limit when you can build/import your own islands. But I also wish respawn was more like Minecraft's "last bed" plus option for one of your "home islands".
It seems that in "Creative Mode" adding/removing islands as you desire would definitely fit "Creative".

Yeah, I guess the possibility to loose your second smaller Island is the thing that makes it not really reliable to have it. Which is why I would like to know if we could have it implemented.

But pulling the Home-Island out of the world to make it a seperate realm is something I don't really would support, since it feels really cool to stay in one world. It makes it more complete.

Why not make it a Side-Boat to call in by a companion-monkey or leguano at the wheel, which I would more accept instead of magically spawning in a giant island. :MMForFun:

I agree. I already am mildly uncomfortable with the fact that you carry your character inventory into a new survival world. I am ok with it if you are starting a new creative world as your inventory is meaningless. And same with home island, absolutely no impact on creative play but some in survival.
HOWEVER, teleporting your home island complete with inventory and animals has been a game saver when some massive bug makes continuing your current world impossible.
And, I will say there is a part of me that appreciates not having to do that beginner grind over and over since I have been playing demos for a long time and had to start over every time there was a change.

But I think it should be possible to just put down some Anchor-Points on your main Island to hook on some smaller Island and drag with you. At least one. Would be so cool.
