animals male or female
Okay other than production of eggs and milk. I don't see a way to see what sex the animal is... would be nice if it was in the guide book or when you look at the animal only hint you have is looking at the name as they seem to have male name sets and female name sets though... this doesn't always say what the creature is... This isn't minecraft where things are odd.

Its got some seperation of the two kinds of creatures just want or need a way to see it.

As far as I know, apart from producing milk and eggs as you wrote, it doesn't matter. Animals in the game don't reproduce. Also, you can rename animals.
Female pheasants heads are more pink rather than purple.... I think. Although its been said that they wont lay eggs unless there is a male pheasant on the island too. (I havent found that issue with any other animal type). In the end, now that I have them laying eggs, I oly pick up pheasants that clearly have girls names :steamhappy:
Be easier if female had red/pink or yellow names and male blue/green.

Can't always go by names as I've had a male named Niomi
Okay so observing things, even though sheep and llamas give up wooll... Male sheep have horns, and females don't. Bubkiss cause it doesn't offer anything more than wool

Llamas seems males are larger? and females are smaller

Goats, males have dark noses and can't be milked, also bigger horns. Females have bright noses and more... danty horns.

Pheasants... I have no clue. I have all long feathered ones and they all lay eggs.
In the majority of cases, the names, too. Males won't be called "Juliette" and females won't be called "Christopher".

I wouldn't bet on that, I had a pheasant named David that laid eggs! It's rare but names can only be a general guide line as to gender. Either I come across real oddities like Acacia trees on the first starter map area and unconventional named animals or I am extremely lucky, if confused. :)

Female goats have udders and teets. Sure sign of milk
I did some testing on the pheasants and put them in separate pens so I could see their drops. The pheasants with those extra feathers on their heads are males, and only drop feathers. The pheasants without the extra feathers on their heads are females and they drop both eggs and feathers. I do not know what would happen if you remove all the males, I will test that next to see if I still get eggs.

Edit: the rest of their bodies look the same, I also do not have any brown ones with the purple colored heads, only blue and light blue, and I don't remember if there are any featherless blue colored ones. I will continue testing to see if those results change.

Females are purple. Males are blue.

I have 3 females, no males. Eggs and feathers are at full production; therefore, males are superfluous.

Well that would have been useful information before I did all that testing lol. Unfortunately since they're so sporadic, and since there's a max limit of animals you can have on one island, I never saw enough of them to come to that conclusion on my own lol. It would be nice if, next to their name, there was one of those male/female symbols or something.

That is also very useless information, time to dump all the useless male creatures. Why get males if they either give you nothing (goats) or only give half (pheasants)
