What Do The Sailing Icons Mean While Piloting Your 'Ship'
So I got the KG bar in Grey, the Lifty sails in Orange, the Rudders in Yellow, and the Sails in Green. There is a dotted line near the bottom and most of the things are a bit above that.

Now, I am assuming the dotted line is like... the minimum level. The KG bar is my bigass 'ship' (I got the most piratey looking one I could find and said: Yep. That's a Ship) and it's almost maxed out.

The Lifty sails... I'm guessing as long as the top of that bar is above that line, it'll lift?

And I'm guessing by that line of reasoning the other bars are the same.

And if I whack down more sails and whatnot it'll go faster? She is a bit wallow-y. But I expect that from what is essentially a rock vaguely shaped like a olde timey pirate ship.

You are correct. As far as sails are concerned, I have experimented with adding more but the effect is minimal so you just as well keep to the bare minimum.

you should have extra sails to have a buffer while pushing through the borders of the storm expecially if you play alone. otherwise will you have a hard time getting through. you could say now "just dont get hit" thats easier said then done. cause, as soon one of those rocks (expecially the explosive ones) getting to close turns your island into a frigging magnet and they hit you no matter what you do öö.

Yes you are right. I have been through several times with just 2 sails though.

I have always wondered just how difficult/costly it is to bring the largest island we can possibly drive across the barrier.... ie one that actually NEEDS 6+ sails in order to even move, and has little hope of avoiding the rocks. I can drive an IBI through the barrier with no/little cost to refix the sails... but when I drove my smallish medium island through (4 sails, not expanded to full size) I consistently had to spend 80+ cloth on the sails to make it. Clearly I am not good at this part.... :steamhappy: I am curious what the worst "cost" to cross a barrier has been :)

lol my very first attempt on my first island (medium/large-ish island) took me 2 hrs and probably over 200 wool.

Now I have a spanish galleon I built using the super tiny island south of the starting area, makes it thru in 10 sec without getting hit lol.
If you press F while sailing in 3rd person, you can see how each sail is performing by a color map. Red is bad, then to orange, yellow, green, and blue being the best performance. The number at the top gives the estimate str output for each sail.
The sails need space cleared around them to be effective at catching wind. More flexible sails are better for going against the wind, ie Bermuda sails.
