cant find earthworms

where can i find earthworms? i have explored half of the second biome and the worm box - but not found a single earthworm

I only found one in the wild, your best bet is the worm box.

Not sure if it's the best way, but what I did was:
I placed the worm box right next to the compost bin. Put manure in if you have animals, it's better than wasting wheat or corn to make soil. Let the compost bin make soil and go do something else. Check the worm box often, I think that it produces a worm every 5 minutes or so. Also, I think that the worm box generates worms even if you're not making soil, as long as the box is in close proximity to the compost bin. Good luck!

To find them in the wild check your field guide to see if an island has worms then use the hoe tool(forgot what it's called in game) and randomly dig up turf. Once you have the worm box place that next to your composter and it'll generate worms.

You can technically find them out in the open, but they're super rare, and very easily missed. They look like little gray blobs (I think it's a placeholder asset). I took a picture, but I'm not at my computer right now.

Place 4 of them next to your composter and its 4 times as good, too... no worm shortage ever again....

Once you find an island with worms on the field guide and dig around with the dorkip until you get one you can then release the worm on your home island and they will repopulate the soil

I figured out by acc ident that you don't have to go dig up an entire islands' worth of turf looking for worms. You can stand in one spot, and dig up/place down the same bit of turf, and it counts as a new dig. This is how I now gather up my supply of ladybugs/blue beetles/worms.

Clever! A bit too grindy for my taste, but effective.
