Import non-custom Island in Island Editor?
How can I import a non-custom Island in Island Editor?
If I copy the .json File it just loads infinitely.

Would love to load my current island into the island creator and tweak it :)
Well the best I've been able to do is load in the default version of my island (like how it looked before I touched it) After doing so, it corrupts the file and makes it un-loadable again.
It looks like people have asked about this on Discord and Devs are been real quite on the subject. I believe there is some differences in the Hexcode inside the .json files when in comes to in game islands and customs islands. I have yet to figure it out, but haven't given up yet.

I have inspected the data files for the saved islands in the Island Creator and in the actual game. They are totally different. When a custom island is imported into the game, it appears that there is a generation process that occurs to convert the format. I suspect only the devs would know how to reverse that process, or if it is even possible. For example, can the contents of storage chests be retained? What about the individual names of animals? I would not expect a solution for this desired feature soon.

I wouldn't mind if it didn't transfer over any inventory items, animals or farm plots. I just want to mess with the building structures. The rest of the stuff I can just offload to another island for storage

Agreed. However, things such as functional sails and functional crafting stations would also not survive the transition. And the building structures that do survive will only return wood when deconstructed. You would be getting back a sad shell of the island you started with. It means a lot of rebuilding. It is almost certainly less work to simply start fresh in the Island Creator and make the island you really want.
