B) you'll unlock a soil box at some point. When placed next to your compost device each box will generate one worm at a time (it won't produce another if one is already in it). So place down a few soil boxes around the compost and you'll have endless worms.
It's a beetle that looks very much like the blue shiny beetle. It took me a long time before I found any (I was in the NW part of the map, but I imagine it's random). I think it's possible to find them by lifting turf, like worms. Worms work in the third biome too, until you find the beetles. Good luck!
