How to get linen sails
I have unlocked five different kinds of leaf and wool sails. But I have not found a single linen sail blueprint yet. Is there some other requirement. I have flax and linen. I've visited every quest location in the first two areas.

I thought maybe I just need to find more lost anchors, but my stormchaser doesn't even locate any more when I try to use it.

So far I've only found 1 Linen sail. It appears that the lost anchors give recipes in a specific order. so you have to learn all the wool sails before the next lost anchor found gets you a linen sail. I found the linen sail I believe in the first area of the middle section, same sector as the Windmill is learned but not necessarily the same island, just dont know which island I learned it on specifically. The first linen sail for me was Linen Gaff Sail.

lost anchors give all the sails, ive maxed them out so far but i cant craft them cuz the Stones refuse to give me the workbenches i need xD

Linen is the last material used for sails. You don't need linen until very late in the game. Don't worry about it.

The "?" locations hold key technology you cannot learn any other way.

Also anchors and knowledge stone recipes are separate for each biome.

Yeah and I am at that point in the game. I can't get into the next area because I don't have linen sails.

I guess I'll circumnavigate the inner ring again looking for lost anchors.

If you build a "Stormchaser", you can use it to search for the nearest anchor (you follow the smoke it gives off once you tell it to look for anchors). I did it up in the highest tile of the inner ring (ie just below the tier3 section), and it led me to an anchor that gave me linen sail.
Yeah, but for some reason it wasn't activating. Anyway I did manage to find another lost anchor that gave me a linen gaff sail. Not the greatest but it'll do.

I think thats the one I got too; anything to make it past the wall... after which I have found 2-3 more sails since. I made 100 extra linen before I tried, for repair costs. I needed most of it (maybe I am just terrible at avoidnig rocks.....)

I've crossed the barriers about 12 times now, 3 of those times with zero damage. Its rough. Stay especially clear of the little dark ones, they get attracted to your island and go boom much worse than the normal rocks.
On my first try I was almost all the way across when I lost my last sail and it sent me all the way back. However I noticed that my speed didn't seem to change regardless of the number of sails I had up. So on my next attempt I only repaired one sail and just went through the whole thing with that one sail. Repairing it as needed. It worked great and saved me a lot of linen.
I have lots of linen sail plans, but can't make them because what is the rope? My linen fiber makes regular rope, which doesn't work. FWIW, the last five or so anchors I've found prompt me to 'learn' but then don't teach me anything. I've been to every island in the first two tiers, so I'm stuck just peacefully gardening until I get too bored and quit.

Waxed rope. You need wax from beehives + 2 rope (combine at the workbench).

Then you've run out of anchor knowledge! There's still a limited scope to the game, but we're promised that the next update should add more content.

Have you gotten the Sawmill from the second Fresco island? It's quite distinctive looking (and a fun little challenge). Once you build the Sawmill (and make the Waxed Rope), you can construct Linen Sails, pass through the barrier, and explore the third and last biome, Red Cliffs.

In case you need further guidance:
