bats in floor/ground?
so i doubt this is intentional, but releasing bats just makes them appear in the floor with just their feet or none of them showing. anyone else having that issue?

also are small animals like that supposed to roam around or are they just probs that never move?

I just started playing, but I've seen that each animal has a "biome" that it likes. A frog wants water. A bird a tree. I would guess a bat wants to hang from the roof or maybe wall of a cave. Probably doesn't like being released outside.

yeah i assumed that much, but placing it in a cave even the one i found it in had the same result, it just clips into the floor right where your standing, you can't place it to where it's hanging off of a stalactite or anything.
I think the critters still need an AI pass. This first major update was just about getting them in the game. Next, Astrolabe's going to get them to be more "lively."

seems to make sense since stuff takes time, though i feel like they maybe should have held off on adding in the small creatures if that's the case. better to do it properly right from the start instead of adding in something that's not up to quality yet imo

That would take several rounds of in-house testing, which is a luxury only the big publishers can afford. Tiny indie studios rely on us unpaid testers to sanity check each step of the process. Besides, they are under intense pressure from the community (and thus investors) to put out timely content; holding off on something "until it's ready" would result in intolerable waits from the players, resulting in loss of community enthusiasm, resulting in loss of sales, resulting in loss of funding and the closing of the company. This is unfortunately necessary for their survival.

Also: Astrolabe only has 3 coders, none of whom specialize in AI.

I dropped mine in front of the tree habitat that you craft that is for bats and birds. Yes, it went into the ground. I then exited the game and played later. I then noticed the bat hanging on one of the "branches" of the tree. So seems like maybe it kind of works :steamhappy:

If yet to really figure out what those habitats that you craft are for. Just been experimenting with them.
Speaking of bats and habitats, the red bat in particular does not want to/can't be placed in any of the terrariums even though the other bats can.

Yeah I think that's a new bug, because before last update I could put it in the fallen heights vivarium (red tree) and now it's greyed and I made the mistake of taking it out and can't put it back in
