The animal limit based on island size is ruining the fun I could be having! PLEASE remove this Penalty
I made my first base on a very small round puddle island and built a ship around it. It is quit big too, however, I can only have 8 animals. So I went into island editor and built a custom island with 2 small island and a little bit bigger island. That is 3 Island stuck together to make one big island. I spent almost 24 hours rebuilding my ship around them now it is huge. Transfered all my stuff over to new island to find that I can still only have 8 animals. The limit to how many animals you can have based on islands size is really ruining the fun I could be having... PLEASE remove this penalty it is really not needed.

The animal limit is a balancing mechanic. Large islands can hold more animals, but are slow. Small islands are fast, but can't hold many animals.

If you were to remove the animal limit:
  • There would be no practical reason to get any island but the absolute smallest, essentially punishing those of us who like the aesthetics of natural beauty.
  • Players would collect an absurd number of animals, then complain about the performance hit.
  • Multiplayer worlds would suffer from greedy individuals hoarding all the animals, leaving none for others
  • There would be no tactical considerations when coming across a new animal -- just get it, always, period.

I'm sorry that you spent all that time transferring to a new island just to find out it has the same animal limit; that sounds incredibly frustrating. You could try having another home island with greater animal capacity, specifically for your farm. Keep just a few animals that have the resources you need on your main island, and send all the others to the farm island.

Thanks for your reply, I understand that some people can ruin things for others. But how does it punishes those of you who like the aesthetics of natural beauty? My island is very visible with all it's natural beauty showing. I just wanted to build more than a house on an island, and it is just as big as a medium to large island in it's full build. it is just long and flat not round with several layers to it. What I am asking is not to remove the limit, just increase the limit, if there are more island added. The limit should go up if it is changed from one small island alone, to three islands placed together to make a much bigger island. Which is what I did in the island creator. It is clearly much larger. But, still the animal limit stayed the same as the one small island "8" This does need to change, Also I would like to add that I had to place just as many sails on my creation as my friend who choose a "large" round many layered island just to keep up with her. Thanks for your time and opinion. I often don't clearly write what I mean, because I don't think like an exploiter. I don't want unlimited animals. But I did expect it to at least double "16" since I added two more island to the build. I will try to post a picture if I can figure out how. Suggestion to Dev's put an option in co-op/ singleplayer menu to increase the Animal limit if the server host wants to.

Oh, now I see. I'm sorry I misunderstood.

This actually sounds like a bug, not a design decision. I'm guessing your animal limitation was set before you added more to your island. Afterward the changes, however, your island's mass went up (making it slower) while the animal limit did not. It clearly should have increased, to at least 16, as you say.

I think a world option for increasing (or decreasing) the animal limit is a fantastic idea.

Thank you for taking the time to explain the situation fully. I hope I didn't offend you or come across as argumentative. I'm glad we could come to an understanding and agreement. I count that as winning at conversation!
