Tips:
Save your paper. Your sketchbook will fill up with a lot of default items when you unlock other things, and you don't want to use up your paper getting a sketch that you will get for free. Wait a little while before sketching the things you are missing (like the stone construction, curved pieces, arches, etc.) I think you get most of the basic construction pieces when you unlock the hammer, but I have seen people streaming who get the sketchbook from exploring before they make their first tool.
Your progress is saved on your character across multiple worlds, so what I do is name a world "Home World." Then, the rest of the worlds I name "Resource" and when I finish one resource world, I delete it from the directory and name the next world "Resource" to take it's place. That way you don't have your load page fill up with a bunch of extra resource worlds that are basically throw-away.
There is plenty of paper if you plunder resource worlds, but if you are a purist and only play on one world, then you will want to conserve. The islands will reset (re-populate with fungus and refill chests) over time. One of the main rare resources in the Demo is bone. You can make bone tools (better than stone) but there are only 3 pieces of bone in each world. Also, only 3 planks from deconstructing the plank stockpiles. The main reason to use resource worlds is to collect more bone to improve all of your tools, and it is much faster to run your character through a new world than to wait for your home world to reset.
The Dorkip is used (like most tools) not just as a weapon. It is also used to make your farms, and to dig for buried treasure. Look for oddities on the islands and try digging around them.
Last tip: there is additional content in earlier versions of the game that are not in the newest Demo. The formulas are different, so it really is a different game, but you can get a feel for what is going to be added back with the EA launch (with updated tech tree and all of the improvements) if you play one of the earlier verstions. You can select a different beta by right clicking on the game in the Steam library and going to the beta list. Most people who do this, I believe, are playing 0_1_34 as it is the most recent and comprehensive before the current Demo.
Approx 2 months until the EA launch.
When you create a new world, you can choose the setting of Peaceful Mode -- the plants might still take a swipe at you, while you are clearing them, but no shroomie enemies will spawn. (This is how I prefer to play, because I like the chill aspect, too.)
