So your only source of materials to make rope is to kill bad guys. Sorry.
Get the fiber from killing the nasty plants that don't have the tentacles. There are some on a small island, near-ish the beginning, and some that you have to hunt down on other infected islands after you think they're cleared. You find out they're still there when you do the whole restore environment thing.
I haven't seen any flax, yet, it may not be in the demo. If it is, it's a grassy clump with blue flowers.
Flax isn't featured in this demo, since it's for a later biome that's still WIP!
A temporary fix is to create a new world and go farm some mushrooms enemies :)
Btw, if I may ask, where did all your ropes go (what have you invested them in)?
Hi there, thanks for responding. I would highly recommend an alternative in the meantime. Not everyone is good at battle just to make rope. Or increase the RNG for rope in chests if there is no way to implement a temp node from an existing shrub. :)
USAGE: First it forces you to learn tools in a certain order and the sword is the last or close to last one - so you waste some rope on those. If you're only getting a single rope at a time here and there from the rare chest that has one (I think one of them had two), then that's a pretty slow process itself. Once I did finally brave the corrupted islands with the axe enough times to make a sword - I was then able to finally grind a bit easier and get enough to make two of the basic sails you can find on that same island as the helm, etc. but that's not even close to enough to get an island moving. It was barely a tick on the meter. :\ However, four floaters and two rudders seem to be enough (although pretty pitiful on the meter, but at least enough to work it looked like)
So, I kinda gave up at that point. I'll try again on a new game save I guess and see if more rope might spawn in the chests or something. I really want to fly an island at some point, but it's pretty disheartening right now.
I appreciate your hard work on the game itself though, it will definitely have a home in my library. I'm looking forward to being able to play it.
Take care
Also a bummer, I now found 0 rope in any of the chests, although plenty of stuff in them, and now the shroom dudes don't drop any of that fiber stuff to make rope with either!
There is a major rope-deficit in this game! XD
Side note: I picked up a blue bug somewhere - a chest I think - but I'm unable to equip it or figure out any other way to drop it on an island to add to the ecosystem. It wasn't flagged by the crafting system or anything as if I needed to put it in a garden or something. So just some FYI
I'm finally flying an island around. Now I just need animals to spawn in again, so I can repair the ecosystems of all these islands I've de-corrupted :)
Really! My daughter and I have spent 3 hours trying to find flax because of what you posted about some blue flowers. F this game. We are done.
That's some seriously misplaced anger. A dev answered a question about flax not being in this demo and because you chose not to read more than the first two posts you got mad enough to drop the game. I think the deconstruction feature nets you plenty of rope, assuming you can look at a thing and realize it took rope to make; hanging lanterns and rope barriers are on a bunch of islands. One thing to note is you can deconstruct tools in inventory but the prompt is partly covered by your health, so if you make or find a tool that needs rope you can get that back.
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
It's not misplaced. It's frustrating searching all the islands to find the flax you need to progress, and only find out there isn't any from looking through the forums. Just don't put the blueprint for the brewing station in the game, if you can't build it. You can spend hours wasting your time on this wild goose chase.
Anyway it's not like he was pissed off enough to go find Astrolabe's HQ to burn to the ground. He just posted his pissed-offness about a game feature, to the game's forum. This forum is amazingly polite by modern Internet standards!
