Tutorial Glitch? - skipping steps, the search for a Pickaxe

Enjoyed the character creator and exploring a bit, however it seems my tutorial skipped a couple steps. I gathered stone and wood, I crafted an axe and hammer, and then it said nothing about knowledge stones or crafting a sawmill - straight to telling me to craft a pickaxe. Which, as I learned looking through discussion posts, I cannot do without the second knowledge stone - which the game was supposed to tell me I needed to search for.

For anyone looking, the two knowledge stones I have found are 1) right across from the starting spot , in the floating island slightly above the one lake, and 2) Looking from the edge of the spot where you find a bed and 2 seaweed baskets, easiest to see it at night, glowing as it is.

The first gave me recipies for a house and workbench, however i cannot combine 3 materials and learn them on the workbench, unless I am missing something. The second stone I mentioned only gave me a Leaf Bed and Basket, no pickaxe or anything.

HOWEVER, there is a board that has 3 pickaxes attatched to it that you can pick one up and this will mark the quest as complete - look for the mine-esque area with a hole in the middle and head up!


Definitely the Alpha (in game dec terms) version of the game, and looking forward to seeing how it progresses, hopefully this helps others who got stuck at the same spot.

The new version has no sawmill - You can simply craft a pickaxe by combining 2 sharp stones with wood in the workbench :) However, there is a known bug where some steps of the tutorial are skipped, we're working on a fix, do let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime!

no wonder i was so confused, guess i hit the bug..Well yer game wont let me combine 2 sharp stones, soo guess ill be waiting for a fix

You need to build a workbench (key "B") first. Only there you can combine more than two ingredients (2 sharp stones, 1 wood). If you can't build the workbench, you will need to find the knowledge stone where you can learn its blueprint.

Looks like this is still an issue as of Jan 2025 with release around the corner. I had to try google for how to make the pickaxe. Only way I could get/make on was look for the mine area as OP instructs.

Indeed, the demo is quite old now (we haven't updated it since), but the full game comes with months and months worth of bug fixes and polishing ;) That bug is long solved
