What is there to do.
So ive never played this game, but im interested, i see theres a ton of playable characters but what is there to do with them? Obviously theres the story, but what else? is there anything like endgame /bosses / raids or such to do besides the story?

This thread had a comprehensive breakdown, not sure if there is any endless post game mechanics but it seems pretty lengthy as is, especially if you are collecting all of the characters.

playing cards, beyblade, chicken race and then finish it with relaxing onsen

I don't really get your point.

What do you expect "to do" with the characters beyond the story and behaviors in game, maybe they jump out of the display to live with you?

Traditionally there will be an end-game roll says what each of them ended as or moved to do after the endgame/finale, but that's still "within the game story" of course.

Typical JRPG stuff if they're in your party. Go to cities and towns and talk to people or go to dungeons and fight monsters, you know the drill. Some take up management positions in the castle to take care of... the ranch or woodcutting or the armoury etc. Others can help you collect resources in and do other random things in the support role. There's lots of mini games and some side quests. I mean.. yeah....

Well I don’t know exactly because I’ve never played the game, in my experience some games have huge amounts of end game content that you can use all those characters for, as an example Disgaea series. Whilst the game has a story it opens up more after the story with tons to do, monster hunter is the same way, that’s why I asked as I’d like clarification as to if this game essential is story and nothing else

I finished the story today and although you can continue exploring the game after the story, but there doesn't seem to be any endgame content.

That's quite different, Disgaea is NOT meant to have an end-game. It's a game made to have race and competition on making your record higher level such as Lv. 999,999, or more damage per strike such as 99,999,999,999.

In this game you can keep on running with the castle and characters you have after you beat the (storyline) final boss, but I don't see much benefit in doing this.

And no, you cannot do on-line poke-mon character / party duels with other players in this game.

I find the card battles really enjoyable personally. YMMV, though.

But no, as others have indicated, this isn't the kind of game where you have "end game content" in the sense you may be envisioning it. It's a very straightforward, very intentionally anachronistic JRPG meant to resemble Suikoden (particularly the first two.)

The huge number of characters is more a nod to Suikoden than anything else. In that game, there were 108 because it was inspired by the Water Margin folk fantasy, where there were 108 outlaws. Being able to recruit characters (but not having to recruit every last one, and some being harder to get than others) was kind of the "gimmick" of the Suikoden games.

That's not to say they don't serve a purpose. Many open up services in your castle town which expands over time as you recruit them. How many you have factors into the large scale battles somewhat. They give you lots of options in terms of party composition. And there's lots of optional content you can access via them. Not all are combat characters.

But once you're done, you're done. I mean, unless you wish to just keep existing in the world for the hell of it. It's not an unpleasant one to exist in.

There's also NG+ so you can carry them over to a new save and replay the game with them, etc.

You have a variety of mini-games, maxing out character (Level 99), or new game + with all characters already recruited, which is a feature I craved from previous Suikoden Entries.

Aside for that, most Suikodens did not have much to do once the story was complete.

That doesn't mean there can't be post game content for Eiyuden Chronicles though. I would love to see some post-game content from DLC or a sequel.

Disgaea is a bit of an unfair comparison, that game was developed around Post-Game Content. Completing Story was basically the introduction for that series. Most JRPGs will never come close to that amount of End-Game/Post-Game content.
