But I like it, it's really in the same vein as suikoden, with a slightly more basic story (for now).
The graphics are an 8... environments are very pretty, some of the characters are bit to generic but generally look great, combat animations FX are suffitiently flashy, but high level skills/spells are lacking a bit compared to the other games (especially 5). There are some technical problems with refresh rates etc. But that can/will be fixed, I hope.
Sound and music are an 8 too... I like the soundtrack - some memorable tunes - and most of the voices are good/fitting.
The gameplay is a 6... boss battles tend to be on tedious side, army battles, exploration and travel are kinda meh (haven't got fast travel yet). inventory and character managment are fine, though. Some nice mini games,... the usual Suikoden fair.
Story is a 7 so far... very Suikoden 1 as far as themes and scale go, a bit more light hearted/less impactful, though. No bioweapons and mirrors of mass destruction as of yet...
In conclusion: Around a 7 overall. It invokes the Suikoden 1 feel (with sprinkle of Sukoden 3) very well, but it has quite a few problems... not all of which will be fixable by patches.
Visuals are 8 or 9 - good 2.5D graphics. Camera changing orientation is a nice gimmick.
Gameplay/music/characters are 7 - good, but not the Suikoden 2 level of good
Localisation is 4 - weak with its inaccuracies, but it could be way worse
Story is N/A - too early to judge. So far there hasn't been anything major happening that would sell me to the series
I think it's above the JRPG average,
but below what I think of Suikoden 2.
They may be intentionally NOT copying some of the factors or Suikoden,
but there are just so many things still need tuning in system and story.

I don't know why they choose that list, and forbit players to name the castle themselves.
While I agree I'd have preferred to name it myself, there's some real hilarious (and actually decent) gems in there.
The list in Japanese Version is a disaster.
