Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Beware of Eiyuden Chronicles Discord Mods...
Just an FYI, while searching to see just how BAD the localisation was on the official Eiyuden discord... I saw a very recent message from a mod. You can see it below:

https://i.imgur.com/UBJjxCd.png

After reading this message, I thought it was really odd a moderator for a small studio like Rabbit & Bear studio is threatening new members. What does being new have to do with anything?

For some history, I've played Suikoden 1-5. I really really miss the work of the late Yoshitaka Murayama. To see a 'rogue' localisation team change so much of the dialect bothered me.

Why would a mod power trip about valid concerns?

Here was my direct response to the mod who posted the message above:

https://i.imgur.com/uyIOWp3.png

ignore the the wreaks / reeks typo haha.

I was in that server since 2021. I've been telling literally everyone I know about the game. My policy is to wait a few days before buying a new game. I was playing my brother's early-access copy to test it.

I don't know what to say. I think this is a problem that should be made note of, this individual mod is power-tripping. Ban Appeals are also minimum 30 days before you can appeal.

I'm going to hold out for changes or mods to the translation before purchasing this game.

Totally arrogant and narcissistic to think they can do a better job then the game's original creators or that anyone bought the game because of their localisation

Its far more arrogant that A BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT DONT EVEN KNOW JAPANESE are all spouting a bunch of BS because a couple people with dubious qualifications at best posted their "translation" and a call to arms. Most of which DONT EVEN SHOW ANYTHING WORTH CRYING OVER. I mean its almost like they could have had an agenda thats been fed by a bunch of schizos that think anyone with the job title of translator is an evil person out to ruin games. Which you know hasnt been a thing a bunch of schizo morons have been screaming about with every single translated game released in the last 5 years. Not at all.

You cant throw a rock online without hitting a bunch of idiots that all claim the """"woke"""" agenda is inserting politics and ruining everything while calling to harass a bunch of workers to bend the knee and stop doing things they werent doing in the first place.

I don't think it's normal practice to ban any person that dares touch upon what should be a neutral topic, yet here we are.
Your group is really weird, pick a lane, support freedom of expression or don't. You want to cry about the devs saying chud, but also want to be free to say whatever you want in their community. Can't have both, they can because it's their project, take the hint they have so not subtly given your community lol.

"the devs"

You keep repeating this phrase to give yourself legitimacy. Localizers are not "devs", they are not any part of the original script. If murayama wanted to write "chud" in his dialogue, so be it. You are not murayama, no translator is, no localizer is, and moreover it is not even a real word in the english language it's made up slang nonsense used by terminally online political insane people and nobody else.

It is not remotely out of line, "harassment", impolite or anything else for the actual fans of the game and its creators to ask specifically to have the writing that the REAL DEVS did, and when every other localized language got that without asking because those localizers actually did their jobs as they were requested by the creators :)

it's very easy to write off your entire post as soon as you say "political insults" regarding "chud"

You realise the average person on steam forums can see through the gaslighting you are currently doing right?

wow i'm glad you can google, but now can you please identify how it was used in the game, and if that usage in context had a political slant to it? and also how often the word comes up in the game? enlighten everyone, since you're very good at researching.

Tell me how professional these lines are:

'farthead'
'dumbface'
'rub a dub dub'
'pigeonlicker'

None of that exists in the Japanese version (for good reason)

None of it should exist in the English localisation either

That's the level of localisation you are attempting to defend here.
The rabid "people" defending this localization doesn't even have the game. Yet, us that have actually paid, not only basic price but deluxe one, are supposed to be the "trolls that are engaged in a smear campaign against the game".

Give me a break. I paid to have Murayama work, not the work of a deranged resetera drone.

here are several circles on twitter with thousands of followers that do this every month with a different game, like clockwork, just for clout

This RIGHT here is the basics of all of it. There are entire communities fed by youtube ad revenue and patreon donations that exist SOLELY as content farms to feed absolute garbage to people. All you need to do is make something out to be super scary or offensive or just incite anger in one way or another. It doesnt matter if its true. It doesnt matter if anyone believes it. All that matters is enough people watch it and get mad to generate revenue.

All you have to do is go on youtube and find one of the hundreds of channels thats just some sad white guy in his thirties SCREAMING at the top of their lungs about how the SJW WOKE menace is ruining games. They are everywhere and most of their most dedicated fanbase is right here in these forums. They even share their links!

As opposed to the people who say 'this is amazing, it's made for ME' and -still- don't buy it?

On the one hand we have people who want to buy the game but cannot because the English language localisation is currently not fit for purpose, full of unprofessional lines and USA political insults.

Once that is fixed they will buy the game, that's lost sales currently

On the other hand we have left leaning culture 'warriors' who say that the politically charged insults are perfect and makes them happy to see, but they STILL DO NOT BUY THE GAME

So they are not the customer base, they were never going to be customers (because such political stuff in Fantasy IP's is universally unpopular as it has nothing to do with the Fantasy IP's)

So you would have the Developers listen to your feedback and gain NO sales, rather then listen to 99% feedback to allow English customers to play the game the way the DEVELOPERS MADE IT and gain MORE sales

You don't have the mouse icon either, but you like throwing shade to others who are missing it

uh the problem here is that the second group is purely fictitious. I haven't seen anyone vocally go to bat for this game while also not owning it.

The other problem here is that none of these complainers would have an issue with the game if they played it. But they have no plans to play it and never did. The devs could spend a million bucks to rewrite the whole script, and none of those people would buy it, because it still wouldn't be "accurate" enough, and by the time they did, all the complainers would be onto the next thing anyway.

"The other problem here is that none of these complainers would have an issue with the game if they played it. "

Can you stop making just insane strawman delusional statements to desperately defend your nonsense political position irl. I have played the game for about 16 hours thus far, I own every suikoden game ever released, I have been playing this development teams games for the past almost 30 years. I am still complaining about the frequent completely abysmal segments in the english localization that completely break immersion and make the characters sound like they're 4 years old instead of adults in a war, which is made 10x more clear if you play with jp voices because the tone of the english script is so far removed from the tone the jp voice actors are using that it's impressive.

This is ridiculous. I know enough Japanese that I made a post on the topic a couple months ago, based on the video on the store page. Half the translation stayed faithful while every other line was unnecessarily changed and didn't reflect the personality. People defending the localization have no problem with the dialogue because they don't understand Japanese.

There's too many trolls on both side of the issue.

Would you expect anything different really? Both reddit and discord mods are unprofessional and most of them do it for free. They act based on emotions and given that bad localization is on their isle of their political spectrum they take it personally.

It's really baffling to me, that questioning this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ localization has become a partisan talking point where we should all be banding together to get a better quality game.

Absolutely pathetic, these defenders.

I've proven the term is a political insult (remember you said it wasn't a "political insult")

If you want to prove anything of what you said about it not being the case, that's on you to google/research/prove since you're the one making that claim.
Me oh my, won't someone think about the feelings of people who join a discord solely to import drama into it?
Canceling my pre-order was definitely the right call.

We'll always have Suikoden 2. The wokealizers must be so bitter they aren't able to retroactively butcher our PS1 copies of that masterpiece. God knows how the remaster's script will fare....

you can add this one too. there's tons of questionable translations and some are so bad that they are just straight up rewrites changing a character entirely for muh xDDD humor.

Ohhhhhh nooooooooo! They wrote some words you dont like! Call the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ police! It doesnt really matter how silly an insult is if it is replacing another insult which it is then its not an incorrect translation. Besides insults in japanese are closer to terms like that than what we use for insults in english.

You do realize the top rated review for this game right now is a negative calling out the translation right? You guys can say it's a small minority complaining about it seems big enough for people to have a valid discussion about it. I honestly would have not bought the game if I knew the localization was going to be this bad and reading some of the comments in this thread would have convinced me not to as well. All that I'll say is that I will be extremely hesitant to purchase any future Rabbit and Bear games in the future after how this title was handled.
And? it doesn't take much coordination to have a top rated review. Especially when targeted by a hate group with thousands of active users. There is a reason they could affect that and not the over review score, because anyone can flag any review as useful, but only people owning the product can review. How do you not see that your own actions tell on yourself lol.
