Its far more arrogant that A BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT DONT EVEN KNOW JAPANESE are all spouting a bunch of BS because a couple people with dubious qualifications at best posted their "translation" and a call to arms. Most of which DONT EVEN SHOW ANYTHING WORTH CRYING OVER. I mean its almost like they could have had an agenda thats been fed by a bunch of schizos that think anyone with the job title of translator is an evil person out to ruin games. Which you know hasnt been a thing a bunch of schizo morons have been screaming about with every single translated game released in the last 5 years. Not at all.
You cant throw a rock online without hitting a bunch of idiots that all claim the """"woke"""" agenda is inserting politics and ruining everything while calling to harass a bunch of workers to bend the knee and stop doing things they werent doing in the first place.
"the devs"
You keep repeating this phrase to give yourself legitimacy. Localizers are not "devs", they are not any part of the original script. If murayama wanted to write "chud" in his dialogue, so be it. You are not murayama, no translator is, no localizer is, and moreover it is not even a real word in the english language it's made up slang nonsense used by terminally online political insane people and nobody else.
It is not remotely out of line, "harassment", impolite or anything else for the actual fans of the game and its creators to ask specifically to have the writing that the REAL DEVS did, and when every other localized language got that without asking because those localizers actually did their jobs as they were requested by the creators :)
wow i'm glad you can google, but now can you please identify how it was used in the game, and if that usage in context had a political slant to it? and also how often the word comes up in the game? enlighten everyone, since you're very good at researching.
Tell me how professional these lines are:
'farthead'
'dumbface'
'rub a dub dub'
'pigeonlicker'
None of that exists in the Japanese version (for good reason)
None of it should exist in the English localisation either
That's the level of localisation you are attempting to defend here.
Give me a break. I paid to have Murayama work, not the work of a deranged resetera drone.
This RIGHT here is the basics of all of it. There are entire communities fed by youtube ad revenue and patreon donations that exist SOLELY as content farms to feed absolute garbage to people. All you need to do is make something out to be super scary or offensive or just incite anger in one way or another. It doesnt matter if its true. It doesnt matter if anyone believes it. All that matters is enough people watch it and get mad to generate revenue.
All you have to do is go on youtube and find one of the hundreds of channels thats just some sad white guy in his thirties SCREAMING at the top of their lungs about how the SJW WOKE menace is ruining games. They are everywhere and most of their most dedicated fanbase is right here in these forums. They even share their links!
"The other problem here is that none of these complainers would have an issue with the game if they played it. "
Can you stop making just insane strawman delusional statements to desperately defend your nonsense political position irl. I have played the game for about 16 hours thus far, I own every suikoden game ever released, I have been playing this development teams games for the past almost 30 years. I am still complaining about the frequent completely abysmal segments in the english localization that completely break immersion and make the characters sound like they're 4 years old instead of adults in a war, which is made 10x more clear if you play with jp voices because the tone of the english script is so far removed from the tone the jp voice actors are using that it's impressive.
This is ridiculous. I know enough Japanese that I made a post on the topic a couple months ago, based on the video on the store page. Half the translation stayed faithful while every other line was unnecessarily changed and didn't reflect the personality. People defending the localization have no problem with the dialogue because they don't understand Japanese.
There's too many trolls on both side of the issue.
It's really baffling to me, that questioning this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ localization has become a partisan talking point where we should all be banding together to get a better quality game.
Absolutely pathetic, these defenders.
I've proven the term is a political insult (remember you said it wasn't a "political insult")
If you want to prove anything of what you said about it not being the case, that's on you to google/research/prove since you're the one making that claim.
We'll always have Suikoden 2. The wokealizers must be so bitter they aren't able to retroactively butcher our PS1 copies of that masterpiece. God knows how the remaster's script will fare....

you can add this one too. there's tons of questionable translations and some are so bad that they are just straight up rewrites changing a character entirely for muh xDDD humor.
Ohhhhhh nooooooooo! They wrote some words you dont like! Call the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ police! It doesnt really matter how silly an insult is if it is replacing another insult which it is then its not an incorrect translation. Besides insults in japanese are closer to terms like that than what we use for insults in english.
