Do crops need to be watered if they're planted in the greenhouse?

I tried watering crops that I just planted in the greenhouse, but I can't see the dirt changing color so I'm assuming you don't have to, but it'd be nice to confirm!

They do, unfortunately. I put some seeds down in a patch with a sprinkler and one without, the one without withered and died.

Oddly enough the soil seems to till dark, looknig "watered" as though it's treated like a rainy day, which had me confused at first.

I thought the same thing. They look dark and watered, they're not actually watered. Plus when you upgrade your greenhouse, it mentions something about sprinklers being placed so I assumed they just got auto watered. They don't, you just have to place your own sprinklers. Maybe it's a glitch or the description of the upgrades are outdated and are displaying a cut feature.
