Yes I have been using the balloon to explore, but I'm not getting as many moonstones as is being said here. I'm wondering if there's something wrong with my spawn rate? There's zero chance I will have (EDIT: 2 more moonstones) for the broom before the end of summer.
Same. I really want that barn so I can get more spirits, but the moonstones are frustratingly rare for the amount of important things they're used in.
The starter island is always the same I believe, but the rest of the world is procedurally generated. It might be that none of the islands that spawned near you have dungeons (though there is one on your main island.
explore at night. The moonstones light up.
Sometimes they spawn in the open, sometimes they spawn behind grass that's hidden behind trees.
I found a good few by just spamming the A button while running through grass on islands
