Slime Rancher 2

Slime Rancher 2

Shadow Slimes
How would y'all feel if instead of lowering the amount of plorts needed to open the gates, the golden sureshot worked on the shadow slimes as well. Thus increasing the amount of drops.

Golden sureshot would definitely be the way to balance them. Besides, it would make sense, for both shadow and gold, you just shoot something at them, then they drop their plorts. I hope they add that.

Or even allow a single golden plort to open them as a quick bypass for investing a rare plort?

but shadow slime are just that glorified gold slimes with extra steps, more common
and worthless (to sell them)

Or just let us put the slimes in the ranch

Given how they effect the gameplay loop, this does actually seem like a good idea. It rewards players who bothered to explore, keeps the elements the same, and makes hunting shadow slimes at least somewhat worth it after you open all the doors.

The shadow slimes are lame so far. I don't know if they respawn because, despite being in the tedious labyrinth for ages (it's too samey looking making navigation annoying), they never respawned for me and I couldn't get any more shadow plorts to feed those puzzles. I ultimately just stopped playing without opening one, this update has just been very unfun so far and doesn't make me want to play SL2 further.

I wasn't a fan of how gold slimes work as a rare spawn you need to hit at distance (I'm bad at sniping things with the vac), so I mostly dealt with guaranteed slimes at master snares if I needed gold plorts. This update has a lot of content to cover, so I get part of the shadow plorts by exploring the areas and establishing infrastructure in the Grey Labyrinth, but it's nowhere near enough.

Compared to lowering the gates, making golden sureshot work on shadows would make it easier to get a quick newbuck boost by selling shadow plorts, since shadows are pretty common compared to golds.

I'm more in the 'nerf the amount of plorts needed' camp, but I can get behind this too.

They definitely respawn. I've found that there's some spots you can walk to that cause them to spawn, such as one of the dead ends near the Starlight Strand entrance.

The best way to deal with Shadow Slimes right now is to carry one stack of 'junk' items on you at all times, such as food or resources. Don't go for the Shadow Slimes sitting out in the open - go for the ones in passages or corners, especially those near the Ember Valley and Starlight Strand portals. They will bump into the resources you shoot far more often and you won't have to worry about their plorts falling into the void. When they stop spawning, go back to the Observatory for a bit (there's no drones, so you're bound to have stuff to do), then come back and repeat the process. If you have enough of them, you can even use Shadow Plorts as your junk items.

The process certainly isn't ideal, but it's the best method I've found.

They do respawn it's just getting their plorts tedious af ngl.

Those gates are annoying af make it 5 Shadow Plorts to open one.

I feel like just lowering the amount would be to much, I like how the golden sureshot method wouldn't change anything, except it rewards those who have explored a lot.

The best item to catch is a snowball machine. You can throw snowballs, I managed to shoot the same slime 3 times.

The best part is because you don't have to wait for it to activate. You just put near you when the snowballs are low, recharge and keep hunting.

Rereading y'alls' comments, I can see how the Golden Sureshot would be a more satisfying conclusion. I'd love to use it for more than just Gold Slimes. Maybe a Shadow Compatibility upgrade for the Sureshot could be worth it, since this update has shown that they're willing to add specific upgrades for the power supply?

Haven't made a snowball machine yet, but now I kind of want to just to see if this works :winter2019joyfultearsdog:

I have taken to carrying two stacks of cheap fruit and veg when wandering the Grey Labyrinth to make my shadow slime encounters more profitable. I can usually get at least 10, depending on how many spawn in a cluster.

I think it would be neat if there was a way to ranch them eventually. Maybe it involves more complicated science devices combined with pen upgrades, and is an even later game thing, but it seems like such a waste of a cute slime to be such limited interactions.

I would say that this is a really good idea, as shadow slimes seem like they are in the category of "special slimes" with gold and lucky.

Also shortening the respawn times would be good, it would help reduce grind time

Or, in my opinion the best solution, reducing the amount needed for Shadow Gates. Fun fact: the gates that unlock the two new upgrades cost 100 shadow plorts each. that is just insane. cutting that in half would be good enough for me, reducing it even further would make this process much, much more fun.
