Co-op difficulty scaling?
My friend and I got absolutely destroyed in co-op trying to beat a certain boss - without spoiling, it was after we got the "helmet upgrade". I'm not sure if we even made it through its first health bar.

Then I played solo. I got a resin overshield, saved up 2 consumable shields and 2 consumable health kits, fully maxed out my health capacity, braced myself... and beat the boss without even taking damage. I could've got through with one pixel of health and no consumables. It was _seriously_ anticlimactic.

Does co-op difficulty really scale that severely or were other factors more likely at play, like the artifacts I had, the gun I had, etc?

I think you had a much better build. Coop scales a little, but the biggest loss is if you are sharing calibers and exp. The game needs a fundamental overhaul to make co-op fun IMO. Don't get me wrong, I am glad its there, but it could have been great. Instead... its technically playable.

Why? Coop knowledge is as important as solo knowledge - i.e.: let just one player (usually the host) get all calibrators and thus let them open all weapon chests, share heals/resins as needed, wait for your coop mate before picking up obolites, ping items to each other, etc.

I just had a full coop run in biomes 1-3 with someone, no one went down once, but we both played with that knowledge in mind.

He meant calibrators - in coop only one player should get them so the proficiency isn't diluted between the two players.

Except one calibrator on every beginning of level.

(wrong)
No scaling in co-op same hp, same dmg and same number for mob/boss

But weapons, obolithes and stuff are only for one player : the faster one.

so solo play give always a better build (all for yourself)
You can absolutly do one biome solo at 100% (to optimize your build artifact/ Silphium /increase max hp/ obolithes/ ...) then invite a friend just to do the boss.

In solo run:
Be sure to optimize Silphium and chests.

When you're full hp taking a Silphium will give you 1/3 bar to increase your max hp (2/3 for the biggest)
Use always those augments who give +25% max Hp
(FYI, you can have +300% max hp no more, if you use a Silphium after that when full hp, you'll just use it for nothing)

And don't open all chests (of course open few of them until you find one weapon you really like). Keep them for later when your weapon mastery is maxed (before the boss)

And of course Artifact/Augment build can completly cheese a run, or ruin another one...
You need some luck.

if you don't have good artifacts/augments and/or loss to much hp etc. you don't need to die to begin a new cycle...
