Game runs noticeable smoother on Windows 10. Also CPU perf stat seem to be completely broken on 11
I just clean installed windows 10 and played some Returnal and noticed two things.

First the CPU perfomance stat thing we can toggle in setting seem to be completely broken on windows 11 since it never reached more than 3% on my windows 11 installation. When I played on Windows 10 it immediately showed more than 10% while playing at high refresh rate @ 1440p.

And second I barely noticed any stuttering anymore on W10, so I was wondering if anyone here is playing Returnal on Windows 10 aand can confirm that they don't have any frame pacing issues? I did not analysed it nor I made any specific tests, but I am 100% sure it is running alot smoother on Windows 10 than it did before on my Windows 11 installation for me. Like I have absolutely no doubt about it.

Win11 still has optimization issues for games. Some games it improves performance others it destroys performance. I'd not adopt win11 at least for gaming until ms forces you to do it via cutting off win10 support or there is demonstrable proof they fixed the problems.

Windows 10 here - stutter still a problem.

What hardware do you have? Also did you try to increase the shader cache in nvidia driver in case you got a nvidia card?

well, that should not be a thing anymore.. Windows came out almost 2 years ago.
But yea I guess you're right. I'll probably stay on for 10 now.

A generic fix for stutters is to hardware frame limit the gpu to your monitors refresh rate and not use the in game limiters. So either use riva tuner or your driver control panel to limit frames and if you have a semi recent nvidia gpu you can also set latency to ultra and use 'fast' vsync. This clears up stutter in the majority of games that have it for me.

I limit all games but it did not help for Returnal. It did help to go back to Windows 10 though wich really confuses me, cause 11 is used by 30% of the steam userbase nowadays.

Yeah same, I have stutter on 10. It's not awful or unplayable but it's there. Mostly the traversal stutter. And then some other stutter that happens if the camera is panned really fast in certain areas.

windows 11 is a nightmare, but performance-wise its no different from 10
Josh Feb 20, 2023 @ 6:21pm
yea okay I thought I'd get different responses in here. Hmm unfortunate.

I can tell though people who have serious stutters and are on 11 should try Windows 10 because for me it definitely runs better on 10. I am just absolutely sure and I am actually one of the few that prefers 11 over 10 but if I have to be paranoid all the time that my gaming perfomance would be better on 10, it makes no sense to me to stay on 11.

win10 here, for about 40h i had huge stutters... but since 2 days, after i did something to settings (like lowered to middle) and did benchmark test, all the stutters just gone.

I'm not a win11 hater just haven't seen any metrics that show its better for gaming for the average gamer over sticking with win10. I was the same with win7 and stuck with the 64 bit version until they kicked me off for 64 bit win10.

i'm on windows 10 and i dont have any major stutters.

maybe try frame limiting with special k at 60fps, it has helped in other games to get better frame pacing, so worth a shot imo. also use dlss obviously

Ah yes forgot that dlss and the new frame generation on 40xx gpu usually clear stuttering up fast. Sadly most of the games that stutter for me are older and don't have those options so I have to resort to the hardware frame limits.

I'm playing on Windows 11 and it runs buttery smooth for me. I recognise I'm in the minority with this though. Hopefully they fix the game quickly so everyone can enjoy it.

On Windows 10, honestly I've had very few fatal errors, and game runs very smoothly. Honestly can't complain the game is amazing.
