Cant find any save file
- Install Game
- Right-click Game on Steam Library -> Properties -> On The General Menu search for Steam Cloud and untick/uncheck/disable the option to Keep the Save Games in Steam Cloud for Returnal.
- Go to C->Users->Your Name (PC Name) -> App Data (If you don't see it, check to see hidden files and folders) -> Local -> Returnal (Delete the whole folder or...) -> Steam -> Saved.
- Launch the game from Steam again, and it will restart your progress.
I have not yet played again as I will do it at a later date but, I think you should Check Use Steam Cloud again before you exit the game after playing it the 1st time. Most likely Steam will see a conflict between Local vs Cloud and you will choose Local.
In order to reactivate Steam Cloud and get Your Local Save files to Steam Cloud, you have to do this.
Before activating Steam Cloud
- Open the game and wait for the local save file to load. Check if everything is good, if you are where you were and that you have your Ether currency, as that is persistent within sessions.
- Close Returnal - You can either Suspend the Cycle (which I did) or End the Cycle.
- Wait for Steam to close the game, and the green (playing) icon to disappear.
- (Optional) - You can Copy Paste your Local Save File to another folder just to be sure you do not lose it.
- Right Click Returnal on Steam --> Properties --> General Menu --> Steam Cloud - Check/Activate Steam Cloud. Close the menu.
- Upon doing this, Steam will notify you that it couldn't sync your save files with the cloud and that there is a conflict. Click on the conflict notification.
- Upon opening the menu, it will ask you which files to keep and which files to upload to the Cloud. By using Local Save (which should be the latest between the 2) you will upload and override the save file and SYNC Steam Cloud with your Local Save.
- Now you can play the game with Steam Cloud activated and it will sync your local files with the Cloud Ones. No issues, no conflicts.
If by any chance you want to delete your game progress again, and delete all the saved files, you need to do the steps prior to this post.
