Performance reviews?
No creator on YouTube played it before launch on PC, apparently, can we expect another Sony decent port or the usual unoptimized 2023 PC game?

EDIT: I was wrong, reviews are out

This is pretty much why I am holding off on my purchase for now.
With the fast pace of this game, imagine if this had shader compilation stutter with the amount of particles flying around on screen from it's bullet hell nature? Yeah.... nah.

I'll wait and see if this game actually has some decent performance before buying. Far too many games lately have been horrible.

Wait for the digital foundry video. 100% Alex will cover it as he loves this game.

Multiple Sony games had performance reviews out before release. The fact that Returnal doesn't is worrying. Sony have put a review embargo for Returnal, which is different to how they treated PC ports like Spider-Man or Uncharted where reviews were allowed to be up days before.

It could be janky stuttering mess or it could be great. We have no idea.

They're advertising in-game GPU/CPU/FPS graphs on the store page.

I'm optimistic.

How well it runs on Steam Deck completely decides if this will be a purchase for me.
Embargo lifts shortly after release, so a few more hours.

you can always refund games on steam. Thats what I usually do if a game is horribly optimized.

That is very true! But it being only a few hours till release and I am in no rush on the pre-order incentives or anything I can wait a bit to see reviews. If performance is bad the steamboards will be filled with posts in a matter of minutes anyway.

The stuttering happens mostly in open world videogames, and it's mostly related to assets loading and shaders. I don't think this game will have that kind of optimization issues.

Miracles happen but i dont think this will play nicely on the deck, its a big ask to run this ps5 native game in 60 locked. Having played this on PS5 i can say that uneven frames and that small screen might not provide the ideal platform for the experience this game offers.

But who knows, would be dope.

This is exactly what I fear, they usually are pretty transparent with their ports, but in this case we know literally nothing except the requirements, which are extremely high for ray tracing and ultra presets

That is not really true. Callisto protocol(a mostly closed corridor game) had a tremendous amount of shader compilation stutter. The more recent dead space remake also has issue's with assets loading in behind closed doors and is also a mostly closed corridor game.

Wild hearts also has stuttering issue's, although the map is bigger here than the 2 other games I mentioned it's still not a fully fledged open world game but could be classified as more open. So it can definitely happen in a wide variety of games and most often those games are unreal engine based which I believe Returnal is as well.

Sure thing! I really want this game to have decent performance, I am afraid to ask for good performance these days. My PC isn't horrible but it's not 4090 tier either or anything.

Nope, not really worrying at all. And people with unoptimised PCs will always have stuttering and whinge. For every game.
