Has some nice visual elements and comparable mechanics. 1p view only in certain situations. No ship interiors, no seamless space. Planets have designated landing areas, no exploration or very little. Lots of empty in the settlements I've seen.
The dev has done a superb job with what it is. He's basically trying to give the gameplay without all the simulation aspects, and waste of space that space can be.
I got lured into the game because of the comparison, but found it highly incomparable in, mechanics, scope, and scale. Heard there was no 1p view but saw a streamer on foot using 1p ingame, so I went ahead and bought the game. Also there's a cockpit view, but as soon as you go EVA in a suit... no 1p view. It's aggravating.... even for the streamer when he tried going into a 1p view using the mag boots after using 1p on foot back on the planet.
All depends on what you like. You could like it alot. I'll give it some more time. After running into the limitations, then seeing how the dev intends to work around them. Example, the first time you fly to a planet...... as in SC you must have your warp drive on to see the locations on the planet. Then use the warp drive to fly there as you load into that map. If you fly into the atmosphere it will automatically put you above a target. Either way it's an automated entry process and you have no input until you almost crash into the ground. Once the dev irons out the mechanics and the player isn't lost in the moment the game will be more like a slimmed down version of SC.
I would say that SP2 has way more playable content right now than SC. Star Citizen is still just a glorified tech demo. Lots of pretty stuff, but not much to actually do yet.
If you buy SB2, you'll be lucky if you get 3-5 hours sleep in the first few days.
SB2 is the sister you should have married.
Sc is like playing next amazing space ship star system game, this is not terribly bad, but the graphics and ships overall areas are totally different by miles. You think about seamless space travel, not cut scenes etc...
Yet they did do good job for 1 person developer for sure.
SC still was worth the price of that starter pack to me, just to the the technological achivements (and its problems). They have invented some interesting systems like their planet tech, which really looks good, but once you did and saw it all, it gets old quickly. The bugs are really frustrating most of the time.
SC tries to reinvent the wheel on every little system they do and fail to do that in most situations. Elevators in ships and stations are often broken. Sometimes your ship just explodes out of nowhere. The game crashes often or you get disconnected from the server again and again. You spawn in space if you log off in your bed inside the ship sometimes and die..
So you die often and loose a lot of stuff. Untill you know all that and find ways around it. The NPCs t-posing on chairs sometimes. And so on. I would still check it out on your own. Get a cheap starter ship when they have a sale and just check it out. The graphics are awesome and worth seeing.
On the other hand there is SpaceBourne 2. It's not multiplayer like SC and never wanted to be. The dev seems to use a lot of assets which is ok to me. He gets some progress done.
You can see placeholders all over the place but somehow it' s not a problem to me. The game is still more fun and encouraging to play than SC (once the screenshot awe is over).
I had a lot of fun already with SpaceBourne 2 and am really hyped for the next update and eveyrthing coming in the future.
The dev just excused himself for not delivering the weekly update:D I mean that is some passion right there. He seems to really work hard on his project and I respect that.
With SC you can be happy if you get an update every 3 month and most of the time it gets shifted because they can't make it work with about 700 employees! and a lot bigger budget.
I think SpaceBourne 2 deserves every support it can get to become an even better game.
Thats so Bama.
SB2 as a solo player is much more entertaining to me. yeah doesn't compare in many other ways as mentioned above but I don't look at this as an SC clone but more a stand alone alternative to games like SC, ED and NMS.
With Star Citizen you do not need to dump a lot of money. I bought the Cutlass Black starter and will not spend anymore money. I will buy other ships with money I earned in game as to me that is a massive part of the game loop. People who spend a ton of real money in SC are the real ones that will miss out. Plus anything in the sub store and all other ships will eventually be findable/buyable in game.
SB2 is an amazing game and is singleplayer. It does things a bit different to what SC is doing so they different games and highly recommend SB2 if you are a fan of this genre of games. Despite its jank (which to me adds to its individual charm) and flaws, the game is a lot more in depth than I ever thought it was before playing it, and just convinced a couple friends to buy it.
If you are still on the fence just buy it, i was on the fence then i leaped off after watcjhing a couple youtubers and havent regretted 1 second of it. I put in 25 hours in the first 2 days I bought it as I could not stop.
