Be skeptical of any developer that hides reviews until release

Review embargos are there to hide/silence people's opinions on the game so that it doesn't affect sales - which is exact reason reviews exist in the first place.

Be skeptical of any company that has a review embargo, especially if that review embargo only gets lifted an hour before full release. There's a correlation of developers having embargos because their game is under-polished and unfinished:
- Cyberpunk 2077: 24hr Review embargo
- Anthem: 48hr Review embargo
- Fallout 76: 48hr Review embargo
- The Division 2: 48hr Review embargo
- Star Wars: Battlefront II: 48hr Review embargo
- Watch Dogs: Legion: 48hr Review embargo
- Battlefield 2042: 48hr Review embargo
- No Man’s Sky: Review embargo lifted on release

And if you've pre-ordered, god help you, because you clearly never learn.

The reason I pre-ordered is to support a studio that got caught in the middle of a war and had to displace all of its equipment and staff to another country. They could've shut down production and say ♥♥♥♥ it, we're done, but they kept going, and that tells you something about their determination to see this project through and for that, they have my respect and my money.
