Enemies shooting through walls/ cover
I've noticed this has been my biggest cause of death in this game. Is this intentional? Is it supposed to be enemies using penetrating ammo? Because it don't feel right.

It is not right. The AI in this game is terrible.

Intended. If you notice, each weapon has a certain piercing stat to it. The higher that stat, the more effective it is at shooting through cover. Using thin looking cover will always get you hit behind it.

+1 for terrible AI even after the patch. Destroys the immersion most of the time.

walls don't always work, a general rule I always try to find something metal, wooden box, or concrete to hide behind

I wonder if 3 pen weapons can go through concrete anyways, considering the first time I was test firing the integral in town with normal ammo against a cement building wall, I got an NPC death caption.

"uh... what?" Nobody seemed to be mad about it! I quickloaded just to be safe.

rusted out cars sure don't seem consistent in stopping even ♥♥♥♥♥♥ AKM from bandits at least. which again reminds you "Man, if I had X-ray vision too, I might be able to actually take advantage of MY good penetration guns!"

always keep that in mind for any discussion about "Realistic cover" not even random spray against a wide surface, always where you are.

A thin wall I can understand, but I got dudes shooting straight through trucks or concrete.

Trucks are not substantial cover. (Though the enemy knowing where you are and where to shoot is nonsense, especially if you move, they should just spray and pray then or even stop shooting as trigger discipline, not aimbot you) The only realistically protected part on a truck would be the engine area where you have solid metal, anywhere else would be unreliable at best. Concrete depends on how thick. Use APC/BMP, trees, stacks of boxes (not the breakable kind),thick walls as cover. It could probably use some improvements in this area though.

Its not so much that enemies are shooting -through- truck or car structures, they are essentially shooting any exposed limbs, i.e. your feet, under the truck if there's line-of-sight. While WE can't prone and shoot toes, they don't prone, but magically shoot with any line-sight with hitscan accuracy.

Fighting against human A.I. is extremely frustrating, especially if getting hit with a psi-attack, they melt through my expensive-to-repair premium armor and it really makes me wanna alt-f4.

I've had them shoot through the cement flooring and walls... the game can be very inconsistent on User damage and bullet drop vrs NPCs ... NPC seem to never have bullet drop and have spot on aim. I was head shotted once by an NPC using the M860 Cracker ,the NPC shot through the Bulba at the Anomalous Area in the Lesser Zone.

I haven't noticed this myself. I was pretty sure that the piercing stat only applied to its ability to pierce body armor.

yeah it's broken, i get shot through everything no matter the type weapon or what the object is made out of.
Rashktah Dec 22, 2024 @ 10:59pm
This and the ability of the enemies to spot you even in the darkest of nights in cover and wile not moving (aka hiding) makes combat really aggravating.

I find it quite fascinating feature, maybe requiring a bit of polish, that enemies shoot through walls. I find it immersive to get wallbanged while attempting to fortify myself in confined spaces. Just so nice to get some bullet rain through windows and openings in a building.
But indeed it might be involuntary for devs to have it this way.
AI could be better, much better, since almost any situation with human enemy can be waited out peeking from a corner and wait for enemy searching you getting in line of fire.

AI is now a total aimbotter and wallhacker: precision, see u behind walls, trees and so on.. example:

at 10:47 min or at 46.03 min

Thought it was just that they had piercing ammo but then noticed I was getting shot through solid concrete floors too.

Oh well, I like the extra challenge.

edit - doesn't seem to affect everything/everywhere maybe, tested it some by standing behind a concrete wall and it protected.
