You say you cheesed the salmon mount to get to the island. Did you skip the owl mount altogether? Because the northern winter/mountain area where you find it might be the area you should check out.
The owl opens up the rest of the map and gives new areas to explore. Chalice of Tar, Quintar Sanctuary, the Giant Hellraiser Cube to the west, etc.
You can access the castle as soon as you have the Ibek mount but I definitely wouldn't recommend it at that point.
You should be able to climb further up by jumping onto the next level from here:

If you reach a long bridge going north/south, there should be a platform on the left side at the same elevation that you can't reach otherwise and will probably require your Quintar to jump to. That's where you need to go to progress.
That's the part I missed for a while.
In the 2nd Quintar Race on Eastern Chasm there is a path down and an extremely difficult (well, under the conditions in the spoiler) jumping puzzle... I was able to get to the solid pillars in the 4th room and not sure how much longer that is.
...I should probably just find a way to get there under normal conditions since that would remove all the urgency.
That is one of the most difficult jumping puzzles in the game! There are 5 floors. The platforming on the final floor is not difficult, so you are nearly at the end. It is possible to clear this with a normal Quintar during the race with almost perfect jumping, but that's very hard and it was designed to be cleared during the race using the Golden Quintar instead. I think there may be a way to reach this spot under normal conditions to remove the urgency, but it would be an unintended path.
Edit: I pulled up the game to recall the route. You can get there by flying off of the east side of the Chalice of Tar. I think any of the high points on the eastern ridge will work, but there's one particular tree that gives you some extra height so that you have plenty of clearance to make the flight.
How do I reach the red door in the upper right of the first section of slip glide ride? I'm at the chest above the two stone blocks and the ink pool. Is it a precision Ibek jump? Cos I am not getting it.
Thanks dev.
The Ibek doesn't stop moving immediately when you start charging the jump... so the trick is to time things so that you charge the jump while you are sliding off the edge of the ledge above, and then you can jump immediately after landing on the falling block.
(I assume you're talking about the jump I'm thinking of)
Yeah, that's the one. Bugger, it's more precise than I thought!
Please try using the following route to get past it. I hope this helps!

The answers for the treasure finder quiz questions are as follows! I'm lifting them directly from the editor 'cause I'm lazy like that and also because it somewhat mod proofs things, but they're mostly pretty obvious from the context.
Which item did you need to collect several of to get the map of the @Z3.Name? B!
Why didn't @M219.Name and @M220.Name want you to go near @Z58.Name? A!
Which @V.Job is granted by the crystal found in @Z14.Name? A!
Of the following eyeballs, which does the Quintar Enthusiast hate the most? B!
How many participants are present during the Salmon Run? C!
How many crystals are currently required to obtain a @I7.Name? C!
What's the behavior sequence? A!
In which of these regions can you obtain the @A225.Name summon? B!
Hope that helps someone out there, ha.
