VIVE Console for SteamVR

VIVE Console for SteamVR

Scanlines in right eye Vive Pro 2.
I noticed that it appeared recently. I tried reinstalling and reinstalling the beta version of the console. Are there any solutions?

I had that happen. For me it was a hardware issue; luckily it happened while it was under warranty. Support had me return the headset, which they ended up replacing with a new one (I guess it was unrepairable).

https://imgur.com/MfzV7wP It's not my photo. The same lines. The lines appear first. As soon as the helmet heats up, I'll play a little, then they will disappear.

Same here. HTC goofed with these LCDs.

They have the worst LCD quality for VR that exists unfortunately. I did 7 RMAs personally. cool.

BTW, lines is gone. Not sure what the solution is... Or because I disconnect the HMD cable from the link box after session. Or after the latest SteamVR updates. No lines -_-

Another +. Now I have a vertical scanlines in right eye. And it is visible when the head moves. Is this the end?

Are you running at 120Hz?
Хлебушек Dec 29, 2023 @ 4:33am
Yep.

ok. That's the maximum setting, and it seems to incur a penalty for running that hard. A workaround would be to set it at 90, and use the extra GPU power you freed up for more resolution.

I've also had them for a while. Sometimes it goes away. I think there are some loose components/cables in there but i dont care anymore. I got my Bigscreen beyond arriving on Monday and im tossing the VP2 in the trash

it's broken by design and it's the only decent one I can get my hands on, the only thing is I have to send it back and forth but that's life.

Hey,
a bit late to the party. but maybe i can update this really quick for any other poor soul experiencing it.

After i send a perfectly fine VP2 in to HTC Romania for inspection i got those colorful vertical lines when i got it back from them together with heavy flickering that looked like an old CRT.
I was able to fix that thanks to a user, name lockwood_bra in the Vive forums.

Short story: the VP2 has a special procedure when shutting down, showing this space screensaver and turning off then.
When the HMD is turned off mid-use the pixels tend to "freeze" somehow and show those lines. This doesn't happen when you turn it immediately on again after a power out, e.g. when you play wireless and the battery dies.

Short description for the fix: Use the Headset. It takes time for them to unfreeze.
I had a really blurry screen on both sides and after 1 hour the pink ones vanished, after 1:30 the blue and after another hour the blue ones.
The flickering however took after that around 4 hours extra to vanish completely.
Now the VP2 is working absolutely fine again and did before that for 2 years without ever showing those vertical lines.

Seems the technicians powered it off mid use, packed it and gave it to shipping.

I can only assume, that this is a downside for having such a high resolution on such tiny screens.

No, this is wrong and not normal, this happened to me on my old headset and doesn't on my newest headset replacement even when I don't shut it down correctly, your headset is failing when it shows those lines, it's up to you if you wanna keep it or not.
WorldofShadows Mar 17, 2024 @ 4:42am
Never said it's normal.
I just tried to understand the problem, found that explanation and tried to share a possible solution that at least worked for me and some others based on posts at reddit and in the Vive forums.
There surely can be other issue that manifests in the same behaviour in showing those lines. If that possible solution didn't work and the headset is inside the warranty period it's always better to send it in.

If that is "wrong" for you, so be it.

My headset worked absolutely fine for almost 2 years until i send it for a whole other reason for inspection to HTC and got it back "broken" with those lines from them (1 month before the warranty ended).
And now after using it for 9 hours to get those lines and flickering away it's working fine again. Used it daily for a week before packed it away safely as a reserve in case my newly bought VP2 has some issues and needs to be send in.
The warranty is now over anyways.

I understand don't worry, I've been with 6 different vive pro 2's and all of them had issues but the first one. dead pixels, white spots, ghosting, colored lines etc.. a pure nightmare but like a lot of people It's the only headset that fills my needs.
