Vive Pro 2 occasionally go black for a few seconds
Hello,

Unfortunately, the screens of the Vive Pro 2 occasionally go black for a few seconds. Most of the time the picture comes back. But sometimes it stays black and I have to unplug and reconnect the micro DP cable. I have already tested another Micro-DP cable. I also tried other USB ports without success. can anyone help me? This is so annoying.

Maybe have a look at the SteamVR log and see it says happened at that time.

It's a broken unit, you have to replace it, I had this issue with one of my units too, I hope you got it from a retailer tho.

I finally solved it!

I had the same problem on my Vive Pro 2 that the screen occasionally goes black for a shorter period before turning back on during every play sessions.
Sometimes it wouldn't turn back on and remain black or show white noise in one or the other screen.

I tried:
* Changing power management in Windows.
* Changing the USB controllers' power management to not turn off.
* Various GPU drivers and updating BIOS drivers.
* Resetting the headset USB devices.
* Re-seating cables.
* Changing USB and DP outputs.
* Reinstalling Windows.

Black screen problem persisted.

I found that someone claimed to have solved it by adding fans to the headset.
I also noticed when the black screens happened the headset was very warm to the touch.

So I removed the middle plastic cover between the cameras on my headset (and the plastic piece covering the DP cable on the headset) to get some increased passive air circulation for better cooling.
While it didn't solve the black screens it surely made it happen a lot less frequently and after a longer time of playing. Hmm!
Now I suspected it could be a cooling issue when playing games causing heat buildup within the headset.

So I bought 40x40mm fans (2x powered over USB) and attached one fan between the cameras and one over the top right vents of the headset (configured to blow air out).
This draws in fresh air from the bottom vents. The fans are plugged into the USB C outlet on the headset via an adapter.

Adding fans to the Vive Pro 2 adds some noise but I have NOT had any black screens since and the headset remains very cool even after hours of playing!

Disclaimer:
* I don't know if the black screens are caused by heat buildup but some extra fans on my headset solved it for me! Your problem and solution might be different than mine so start troubleshooting software/cables first.
* I can't recommend you removing the plastic pieces as I did as it could void your warranty (if that's something you want to keep) and you might damage some of the sensors if you're not careful.
* If you want to try to remove the plastic pieces as a start for increased passive cooling there are 4 screws and some plastic clips to undo on the face plates before the face plates can slide away.
After the face plates are gone you can easily and carefully remove the middle plastic piece between the cameras and then slide back the plastic face plates screw them down.
* I don't use the cameras so attaching a fan between them is not a problem for me. If you use them you might want another fan configuration.
* Other fan configurations might work (I have not tried any other configurations!) like attaching fans to the bottom vents only which removes the need of unscrewing the headset at all.
* If you buy fans: find one with as little noise and vibration as possible. I managed to find one with a speed control and have set mine to lowest speed setting.

you have a unit that's overheating, I would advice to replace it, mine doesn't do it even when it gets extremely hot.
