Started with rapier too, swapped to puppet blade from first vendor and stuck with it all game long since upgrade materials were really scarce until endgame.
Parry timings are just kek altogether, it is what it is. My only advise is that you don't try to do the Sekiro parry mash L2 dance, just hold it a brief moment, so at worst you get regular guard.
LOL That was the first thing I thought about, which is why I mentioned that I didn't expect Sekiro style leniency because though Sekiro is hard, it's pretty lenient with that Sekiro "L2 Dance."
I didn't want to bring this up but I was hoping for a parry that added a few frames like the difference between a normal shield and a buckler in FromSoft games. I know it's not a FromSoft game so I didn't want to over complicate the question by making it about that.
I hope I'm not sending the wrong message. So far, I like Lies of P. I just hate Rapiers and have since Dark Souls. And for some really dumb reason, I saw the hilt and just assumed that was a weapon transformation but after spending an embarrassing amount of time pressing LB+Y, I finally realized there was no transformation. But it also didn't burn a bar when I pressed the button which confused me.
I'm going to stick with it because I will fully admit that I'm bad at the game and the game might not be balanced to offer the Rapier more frames to parry.
So, I'll just roll with it for now and see how it plays out.
Thanks for the answer and I'll have to play around with the other weapons and get comfortable with the game. I don't really understand all the nuanced mechanics yet.
