Humans are weak to Acid and I think Weapons can be easier broken but not sure.
Also not 100% sure but I think DoTs are flat but scale with Advance
Its not really a bad advice because before you care about the Attack Type, you should choose your Weapon based on the Moveset, Scaling and Fable Arts. These things are more important then the Attack Type.
Also early in the game you will lack materials to upgrade Weapons to cover the different Attack Types.
90% of enemies are weak to fire on a general scale, fleshy beings weak to acid, puppets weak to electricity. some have their niche weaknesses but when it's acid it is the most devastating, my pipe wrench with acid abrasive destroys most of the endgame bosses
Like everyone else has said, generally humans are weak to acid, carcasses are weak to fire, and puppets are weak to electricity. There are exceptions though like the police bot boss, just use common sense.
DoT damage is flat damage and scales with Advance. I'm not sure exactly how the scaling works though, if there's an intensity scale for status effects or just a flat damage multiplier or what.
