Taking on Nameless Puppet with the saber
So… I did my entire playthrough of Lies of P with the puppet saber. I have had difficulties against some bosses in terms of reach. Most of the time, the bosses have a giant hulking weapon with enormous reach while I try to fight them with my teeny little saber. It took some time but I reached the Nameless Puppet. And as I try to valiantly hold my own against it’s giant combining double sword, I can’t help but wonder if maybe the saber isn’t too short for this fight.
When I perfect parry NP, they still make me slide back out of reach of my saber…
What do you guys think? Did any of you finish the game with the saber - or any equally short weapon ?

I beat him up with TDS and with the electric coil mace thing. Both should be about as short as the saber. The first phase is a bit easier to parry, the second... at the start dodging is a little better option. Also, electric abrasive!

I don't think short weapons work too well on this thing. I can give you some tips to make it easier though. Phase 2

During his dash slash if you perfect guard it, hes left open for a bit.

He is SUPER weak to acid use some acid grindstones and acid blitz and you will be good on damage. Level up the shield Legion arm its honestly amazing as long as you have the stamina to guard you can block and smack him with acid hits lol.

Run like hell when he turns the swords into a spear he does 2 annoying stabs then a jump smash that has a wider range than it looks. The shield can protect you from this if you have the meter to spare.

Throw carcass bottles at him it takes a good chunk of his hp if it lands. Invest in the boosted throwable limit if possible having more of those bottles makes it so you can drain A LOT of his hp if they land.

This guy is by far the hardest thing in the game (Which makes sense) but still only thing I dreaded fighting again when I did newgame + for the other ending.

Electric abrasive you say… I’ll keep that in mind. Did you ever find a way to parry that infuriating shoulder hit? I never see it coming!
And acid, then! Thanks guys!

It pisses me off too, but you just gotta remember it's there. When he runs and pauses, there will be shoulder hit. I think he does it every time when he runs and then stops in that pose.
Each time he gets me with one of those it gets so vexing lol!

That move and animation is totally infuriating! I am not sure I will ever get used it. Even after fighting him for a while I still miss it often.

I just finished NG with the puppet sabre blade with the booster glaive handle. The booster glaive has a lunging charged heavy attack that's very useful for closing distance when enemy attacks push you back like that. Plus it gives you just a little more reach than the default handle.

I love the puppet sabre blade for it's decent speed, lower stamina cost, and having the highest durability in the game, 250 at +10.
I'll try the saber on him and report back.

Some of Nameless Puppet's attack chains are locked, or nearly locked, in the direction he starts attacking, meaning you can dodge once and avoid a couple of swings before he starts to turn and target you again with the rest of the combo. Romeo had a couple of long combos that did the same thing. I mixed the dodge up with holding guard for some of the more aggressive combos where I couldn't trust a perfect guard and getting in a couple R1s at the end for my guard recover. I'd pull out the charged R2 if I was pushed back and had a long enough window. You can also try a sprinting R1 or R2 for slightly more damage than standing attacks but for slightly longer animations.

It worked...most of the time ;)

First time I beat him I used the seven coil spring sword. You can take off around 30% of his HP for a single stagger or maybe even more. Not to mention the absolutely quadruple S tier Fable Art that is the Guard Parry. I still have the original video saved somewhere.
Just went and beat him. The saber is perfectly fine, the range isn't anything to worry about. Run up to him once you've blocked whatever he's done. Some strings will leave you up close to him so you might not even have to run up.

Also, the shoulder charge is fully visible, he drags his sword behind him quite obviously.

The way he keeps making me slide 2 meters back each time I perfect parry him is a tad annoying… It’s making me wonder ; since Nameless Puppet hits like a truck on steroids,m and he’s controlled by Geppeto (in phase 1), is it really Geppeto’s strength ?

Geppetto himself doesn't seem to be physically strong, but he's a genius alchemist and created the best puppets ever (P and the Nameless Puppet).

As mentioned, walk up to the puppet after you parry and you get a few hits. I recorded that run so I've got a video I can upload if you want it.

If you have reached a soft cap in Technique, maybe use Advance Crank on your weapon and put some points in Advance, because it gives a sizeable boost to electro damage from grindstone and also does not decrease other stat affinity.

Upgraded Aegis legion arm or Puppet String legion arm also might be of use. At least that's what I used in that fight.
