My personal favourites are:
1) Bone-cutting saw (blade) + Bramble Curved Sword ("Kukri Handle")
2) Two Dragons Sword ("Katana")
3) Azure Dragon Crescent Glaive (the starter weapon)
4) Proof of Humanity (excellent weapon, but it's definitely a NG+ weapon since you can receive it at the very end)
I didn't pick the 3 elemental weapons put on the elemental spear handle, since it's not "one weapon", but they're grouped together if you want to rely on elemental weapons (which are fun).
Right now I do an "Etiquette" run for fun (the umbrella) and I definitely have to try Uroboros's eye in a dedicated run one day.
Maybe dlc when it's comes gives us another best weapon, we will see
high attack speed, long range and good damage
There are several weapons in the game what objectively give you the biggest bonk with lower skill requirement than other weapons and you will simply dish out much more raw damage.
Take that Two Dragons Sword as an example. The only reason people rate it as "the best weapon" is the built-in parry-stagger thing. I have just finished an NG+ run with this sword and the built-in parry is OP, but not only is it situational and cannot be used in some cases, it also very difficult to use and requires a lot of time investment to generally master all enemies so that you can actually parry then. The actual raw damage of this sword is garbage. It take 3-4 hits to kill some enemies that could be killed with 1 hit from a different weapon under the same conditions. You have to keep using abrasives to make this sword more effective. The fable arts are cool too, but I would not say that they are the best in the game.
- Holy Sword of Ark is the most versatile one
- Noblesse Oblige is amazing damage
- Police Baton handle with whatever you wanna attach to it. I used Big Pipe Wrench Head and Bone-Cutting Sawblade
Technique seems more fun, like, everything works, although Two Dragons Sword stands out a lot. I also like Booster Glaive handle.
With advance there is less variety in general. Acidic Great Sword kinda sucks, everything else seems viable.
Etiquette is just awesome and my favorite, switched it just to check why Two Dragons sword so popular (and yeah, it's really cool)
Proof of Humanity is also very cool, but not so fun to play NG+ on nearly same build
For motivity I couldn't find interesting and effective build, so used heavy weapon + acid/fire damage, and it was REALLY fun:
Handle from Acid Axe (good moveset + elemental damage scale) + Acid Axe blade or Black Steel Cutter blade
Very different and perspective gameplay with Frozen Feast, but I can't feel it, it's SUPER slow, so you need to catch each frame window
Easier for motivity is Police Baton with anything, especially Bone-Cutting Saw blade, ofc. Just great moveset + range
I tried to encourage the OP to think about their personal playstyle and preferences which is a huge part of finding the best personal weapon.
You, for example, make it quite clear that you want big damage numbers and don't care for other factors like attack speed, range etc.
--> your "wrench with baton handle" combo can indeed oneshot many basic enemies with one heavy attack and does big damage numbers, but you have zero control over the battlefield. The charge time is long and the range is less or equal a regular dagger stab (so enemies will outplay you unless the run into your charge without using their range advantage), but your raw damage per hit and stagger potential are great indeed.
The Katana on the other hand (which is clearly not my favourite, but you used it as a reference) got way better range, attacks insanely quick compared to the wrench/baton (so you can easily punish enemies that try to hit you and often kill them before they can strike you) and the damage per hit is average indeed, but it's really okay; and you attack so fast that the DPS is actually high (and pretending that the Katan's raw damage is garbage is simply delusional unless you talk exclusively about "damage per hit", which means nothing if other weapons can do 3-4 attacks in the same time).
I guess I should explain why I personally picked "Bone-cutting saw (blade) + Bramble Curved Sword ("Kukri Handle")" as my first choice:
It's damage is rather high (per hit and per second), the attack speed is surprisingly quick, the range is pretty long, the heavy attack is a forward jump with high damage and good stagger (which works insanely well against regular enemies that approach you; it trivializes big parts of the game), you get it early enough in the story (chapter 5) and it looks great.
I use it with the amulet that gives you more damage per unspent fable art (you can get it as soon as chapter 4 for the chapter 2 boss item) and use the P-organ to add additional fable slots. Add some appropriate elemental damage vs tough enemies like bosses and you'll have a good time.
Put as many stats on Advance, mine starting on NG+ is 44. And physical attack low 17.
Does fast pocking moves and staggering quicker, it's constantly draining life due to poison damage, and using less stamina due to it being one of the lightest weapons, only 9 weight.
Sooo fun to use.
HOW about YOU are BOTH right. 👍💫👏
This game is about PREFERENCE. I was of course doing damage based on Physical attack stats only. Then later realised importance of other stats like techique, advance.
Changed to faster lighter weapons, and got rid of heavy high attack weapons. Slow and take time to hit, and add too much weight. Yet seen other use them effectively.
Everything you are talking about, starting from your first sentence in your first post is about personal preference. I am not denying that personal preference or how you want to play the game matters. Pick the weapon you like and play it. That was not my point either, which apparently you missed completely.
Everything you have written is basically incorrect. There is no battlefield to control, the range doesn't matter at all, and in fact, the range often hinders you when you fight in tight corridors, which are everywhere. Especially when some enemies are placed in a corner and you can't hit them because you weapon bounces off.
A heavy-hitting weapon, like the wrench, will stagger most enemies (and I am talking big ones, like bosses, and other elite ones) in just 2-3 hits. You simply won't be able to do the same with a lighter hitting weapon. In general you will have a much harder time. DPS will mean ♥♥♥♥ if you need to make 10 strikes to do the same damage as another weapon that can do it in 3-4 strikes. Because enemies can interrupt you. By the time you get your multi-attack combo, you will get hit a ton of time. The exception would something like salamander dagger in an advance build. That thing is just OP and it actually interrupts enemies well.
And I am not discussing "what is the best weapon for you" or "what is the best weapon for your playstyle". This is meaningless. I also would not recommend the Two Dragons Sword to someone who is new and asking for weapons recommendations. It's very hard to play with it.
