There's multiple riddles. Best you look up the answers and have em ready since you're on a timer to answer. If you don't want to miss the rewards.
I think you can open any door with any trinity key, so you can get it with your next one if you like. You wouldn't have even missed it if you hadn't looked it up, though.
Back then you had to go to a store and spend $10 or less on a catalog for all the games secrets and answers. Now its free information due to fast speed of word of mouth to social media forums. People used to have to actually figure things out for themselves, not just read a online article and have someone hold their hand all the way through.
I feel your pain. I got lucky and answered right on the first one. I looked up the answers after that so I wouldn't miss the upcoming ones. It sucks to miss stuff like that. I'm going blind, but that was stuff I really wanted after I found out it was a thing.
Sadly, it seems like if you chose the wrong answer then you'll have to wait till the next playthrough to try again. For me, after the first phone (which I did thankfully get right by choosing "human," I made sure to just pull up a guide from Gamespot for the remaining four. That being said, the rest of the riddles should still be available as you progress into the other areas like the Grand Exhibt for example/
Also, nicely enough, the keys can be used on any door.
What the game expects you to do with most of the other bad decisions related to their other gameplay deviations: Suffer.
