How's the customization?
Does this have the same breadth of weapons and gear as the Dark Souls franchise? I loved the RPG element, creating all sorts of unique builds, and making those builds work through all the challenges. My favorite was a Joker build in DS3 :)

I've tried getting into other souls-like games where they had more cookie-cutter classes such as The Surge and Lords of the Fallen, and they just didn't do it for me.

I dont think it does. You are mostly stuck with melee weapons and the main change you can do is with customisation of blades and handles that can change how the weapon behaves. Other than that all stats are mostly just static increases in your defensive and attack power based on your weapon.

You increase strength for weapons that needed it, your dex for the same and same for int (They are called something different in game but follow the same idea as I mentioned).

I have not tried going with a legion attack style (Your prosthetic arm in the game) but from what i noticed this does not seem to be viable and its mostly designed for support purposes.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I figured it would be more limiting, but I had my hopes. Maybe I'll just wait for Payday to release in a few days.

It has about as much gear variety as Bloodborne did. Which is to say, less than the Souls games but each weapon tends to be a bit more unique. You've got your basic swords, rapiers, and greatswords; but also a shock baton, flame knife, a pizza cutter that charges up electricity as you hit with it, a katana that sends you twirling all over the place and has parry timings built into the heavy attacks, a jackhammer spear that continuously slams the enemy, and more. And you can disassemble any non-boss weapon into a handle and blade, with the handle determining moveset and stat scaling and the blade controlling reach, damage, and speed.

The left arm is a bit more limited and generally functions more like a sub-weapon for utility or emergency uses. It's useful, but it can't serve as a primary weapon (though later upgrades can let you use it far more often than at the start.)

Lies of P has a lot of way you can customize your character and make it your own. There are no range/magic builds as in DS games but it was never promised. However, there is a lot of weapons that you can customize by trying different blades and hilts. You also have Legion arm, which is stand-alone tool with its own customization.
You will not be making ultra unique build since you are still stuck with a melee weapon as a main source of damage but the game offers ample amount of ways to make the character yours--Legion arms, P-Organs customization, weapon parts mixing.
