Would you recommend it to someone who never played a Souls game?
This looks interesting but I've never played a souls game before. Would it be worth to learn it for this game?

Hell no in the current state at least. I'd recommend starting with something like maybe Dark Souls 1 or 3 to get a handle on how these types of games are supposed to be played. This game expects you to have some knowledge of the type of game it is to fully enjoy it and in the latter half of the game it'll still test your patience.

Maybe if they fix some of the issues with parrying/dodging for the late game it might become a more newbie friendly souls-like since the beginning of the game isn't that bad, but after around area 4 the game kinda becomes relentless.

no, it's a lot more punishing than other dark souls games/clones
hisv 2023 年 9 月 19 日 上午 6:16
It's much harder than the average souls game I think, and the enemies are pretty snappy so the parry window is not as forgiving as it is in Sekiro, you really have to memorize the parry windows because you can't rely on observation as much.

You can always check the game for UNDER 2 hours (if bought ob steam) and see if you enjoy it or not.

This game relies a lot on blocking and especially parrying attacks for survival. Said attacks will sometimes have little to no windup or telegraphing.

Dodge-rolls, a staple of most other souls games, will get you killed. Dunno if they even have i-frames in this one.

You have to fight a mini-boss to get to the first bonfire/lantern/stargazer, and a proper boss to get to the main hub, which will demand some level of mastery of the aforementioned techniques.

If you do not enjoy yourself during the trial period, request a refund and steam will give it to you.

Yes, but I would recommend starting someplace else first.
For a first Souls-game I would recommend Elden Ring or Bloodborne.
Elden Ring for those who worry about difficulty and their ability to persevere when things get difficult, because summons and a lot of potentially overpowered abilities/weapons+builds tend to reduce the difficulty a lot, while providing a great experience.
Bloodborne if you want to sharpen your timing and not get too used in general to hide behind shields like most Souls games tend to do. In this sense Elden Ring is better as a stepping stone onto Lies of P as Lies of P starts out more guard+parry heavy as opposed to Bloodbornes focus on movement.

Adding to this, I think it isn't so difficult that you cannot play this as your first. But I recommend taking it as a learning experience. The settting is wonderful and it certainly is a Souls-game, so you can take what you learn here into others. It might actually be great in giving you a balanced learning spot to go into any other Souls games afterwards.

You should probably start with DS1 it's way more balanced and has perfect pacing of combat you rarely need to dodge 3-4 string combos or get stunlocked like it often happens in Lies of P, ER or DS3. DS3 and ER are too fast at times you won't learn much there but hone your reflexes while your positioning going to suffer since you will rely too much on dodges, it's just almost zero thinking just pure reflexes it's boring. Ignore DS2 since that game is just total trash and has no positives except a really cool and peaceful location called Majula.
But if you really want to play something new then play Lies of P on Game pass you should prob still be able to buy cheap trial for $1. I could give you my game pass code from my new gamepad that i just received if you want.

Bloodborne is unfortunately caged inside the PS4-5, and reintroduced problems that Dark Souls 1 solved after Demon's Souls (grass, having to load out of zones to reset, etc).

No, start with classic DS titles and learn how to play such type of games. Because this one was made for people with experience and new players probably won't have much fun.
Kaede 2023 年 9 月 19 日 上午 6:39
From what I've heard this is NOT the best introduction to soulslike combat.

no. it combines too many mechanics from other games, and there's too many things to consider at once for a beginner. start with dark souls 1
Medina_Rico 2023 年 9 月 19 日 下午 12:34
I'd go with Dark Souls 3 first. That game pretty much uses the same engine or whatever as Elden Ring and Bloodborne. So it still looks and feels modern. And the boss fights and music are epic. You can have the help of a shield and a lot of enemies can be hit over and over until your stamina runs out because most have no poise.

This game is a lot harder. It's pretty much Bloodborne and Sekiro (the two hardest Fromsoft souls like games) along with its own flavors mixed in.

DS3 isn't an easy game, but I think having the ability to use a shield, how much you can constantly roll and the system not being built around perfect parries makes it a better place to start than this.

That's not to say you can't persevere through this game. Both are going to kick your butt.

I would recommend. Many people who have p[layed most souls like games are still having trouble with this game because they are confused because everything they've learned is not working. So maybe learning from 0 would be better.
Deimos 2023 年 9 月 19 日 下午 12:58
I think not. I'd say its sufficiently hard even for souls veterans.

Dark Souls 1 is your best bet.

If you want something even more accessible to introduce you to some of the basic concepts, try Jedi Fallen Order or Jedi Survivor. Some will disagree but i still think those games count as as souls like.
Senki 2023 年 9 月 19 日 下午 1:03
Depends on how fast you can learn and how calm you can remain when you die

The game is really good, so if you're up for it I'd say it's worth it
