Why does this game not have a good ending for telling the truth?
Do the character choices have depth or in the end does it not really matter?

"Truth" and "lies" are misnomers. Rather than being factually true or not, the choice is between acting like a human who experiences empathy and acting like a cold, unfeeling robot.

Truth and Lies are in regards to your knowledge and behaving more like a person vs more like a puppet since puppets cannot lie. If you always tell the truth, you are basically becoming a puppet vs becoming a human. And we know that puppets cannot disobey the creator, so there is your ending.

As above comments said, the game is about being human or not. The "Good" ending is based on acting as human, ie lying when this will help other to feel better, keeping promises, doing normal activities like listening to music, solving riddles (something that computers/AI is bad at), also I might be tripping but I think the character moves more like a human the more humanlike you are, I need to test it somehow on fresh save
Telling lies is not actually being the bad guy, it means you have your own consciousness and you gain humanity, if that helps. Its not like you say lies and you deceive people

In addition to what others have already said, the happiest resolution to one of the sidequests requires telling the truth.
