Please no open world sequel
Hi,

There are a lot of reports that a sequel would be open world. Please don’t do that unless you are 100 percent sure it can make the game better as in most games it makes it worse, wastes your time and kills the pacing. This game was amazing because it was pretty straightforward, didnt have a lot of completely random quests and impossible to find npcs and its action/ general pacing was great. We (well at least I)want a sequel, not a brand new different game. I dont want another game with no map or quest log that needs them or open spaces with random ennemy placement. Note i finished this game at least 4 times, maybe 5(twice on gamepass and a few times after i decided to buy it on steam).

Sequel should be like the first game, but with more optional exploration and less predictable level design.

Annoying people asking for a quest log and a map...
Thanks so much FromSoftware to make awesome games..

couldn't agree more, open world is a cancer in gaming at this point

I like elden ring but it would've been much better as a non-open world with all the low effort content cut

GIMMEGIMME MOAR OPEN WORLD CONTENT!

Really, I am on the exact opposite of the spectrum. Open world is great, it's just hard to do properly and very much requires that your basic game systems can support it.

Elden Ring did a good job, IMO, and is probably the most expansive open world I've seen since Morrowind. I do feel that LoP has much better combat than ER, so if the LoP devs could somehow get the resources Fromsoft has, I see no reason why an open world game made by the same devs would be good.

Open world is an inherently flawed concept. I hoped that people learned their lesson with Elden Ring and stopped begging for games to go open world but they don't learn

"The game sucked this time, but the next time it will be good, for realz"

As someone who doesn't play elden ring, I actually don't understand why people dislike an open-world soulslike game. But seeing ER's rating, it probably just some minor issue or personal preferences?

So on that note, I think I kinda excited if the sequel would be an open-world game. They might as well title the game "Lies of P: Exploration of D" or something (I don't really know what's the premise of Wizard of Oz).

Hopefully the sequel has an even longer p organ

Elden Ring is filled with low effort content like giving normal mobs a boss hp bar just because they couldn't fill a world this big with only good content. Also a lot of boring horse riding involved if you want to skip the meh content and just go do the good stuff.

Linear games are filled with only quality content and don't waste your time

Open worlds are the death of the genre, 100% agree. But i am afraid Neowitz have proven they do not have the guts to resist pressure from the normie masses.

Open worlds can only take away and serves to bloat runtime and dilute content.
brewedjuice 2024 年 8 月 31 日 下午 4:00
yea gonna say plz no open world. fromsoft didnt nail it quite well enough, ER feels bloated and boring after the first time. and they're way ahead of you guys level design wise. i would practice on a few more smaller games like this and work on improving the micro scale level design, so the game feels less like "garten of banban" where its bland room into hallway into room into hallway for like 30+ hours. otherwise we're gonna get a big empty map full of the most boring dungeons imaginable. i believe in this team. just maybe not enough to want an open world from them already. open worlds are SO easy to get wrong, and ide rather them practice a little more instead of jumping into the deep end and breaking backer confidence with a sub par open world.
Alveriel 2024 年 8 月 31 日 下午 4:30
Feels like every game i have been playing lately could have been twice as good with half the runtime because they were made more open where you spend half you time grabbing useless items and running around. Like visions of mana or star wars outlaw, they just added a millions items to get with no gameplay added.

If Y'all read this I second this with my whole heart. Krat brought back something I absolutely loved about Lordran and Drangleic and to have it ruined for the second time, in another game would be heartbreaking.
Nxce 2024 年 9 月 1 日 上午 8:23
It doesn't matter if it's open world or not, what matters is how the concept is executed. But yes, most souls like games are better with a linear path.
