However, they do switch between enemy types in very creative manners and utilise particularly miniboss monsters exceptionally well. For instance, later in the game you encounter a particularly gruesome puppet miniboss en route to a level boss that is hellish to beat.
That same type of miniboss then ambushes you 5+ hours later in a completely unrelated area with a different theme and it is even more horrifying the second time.
LoP is fairly low budget in its enemy variety, but gets a lot of mileage out of them due to tricks like this.
Because unlike Fromsoft games, throwables here actually do very good damage and status effect buildup. Most cheese guides recommend abusing the hell out of them. There is a merchant in the Malum District who sells unlimited numbers of all throwables.
Summons have been in day 1. They will carry you through NG and then get absolutely shat on in NG+. No different than the other souls likes out there.
