there should be a folder named saved which should contain your savefiles
1. Hit steam support - let them know
2. Turn off cloud, delete that new save, turn cloud back on
3. restart pc
4. uninstall/install game
5. uninstall/install steam again
Wish you luck that ♥♥♥♥ sucks.
I've contacted the dev team for help since I didn't find any resolution on my own, they replied by saying they are going to go through the save data I sent them, I haven't played the game since late December in fear of losing save data again
I also almost lost all my progress due to a bug and being hard locked in front of a broken elevator. Luckily somebody on Discord gave me a smart advice to use the auto destruct item - it obviously killed me but also fixed the bug and I could keep progressing. It took only 1-2h but felt really bad. It was on my second run and with like 50h on the clock.
I ended up starting a new playthrough, and thankfully haven't had any problems since, I'd just start from scratch.
No real support from the developers when I reached out either.
