They put a checkpoint right in front of the parade puppet and it makes me feel like that this is a pure complaint thing after the demo.
There is a shortcut right before that one and it makes no sense to me.
Still confuses me that they didn't add one right in front of scrapped watchman where you actually have to dodge enemies.
1. The devs are sadistically torturing players and having a laugh by wasting people's time,
or more likely -
2. it hugely bumps up playing time, making the game twice as long as it would have been.
If people really needed to go back to the Stargazer/Bonfire/whatever - we always have items to bring you back, so no problems there that I can think of (otherwise - it would be pretty damn inconvenient to have to walk back to that, then all the way back to the boss). Like imagine back-tracking from Pinwheel to the first bonfire in the Crypt in DS1.
Stop it. Just. Stop. Shut up. Go home. NO!!
Someone hold me...
I've made this climb many times with an item and enemy randomizer. It's still painful
Now imagine if that run-back was necessary because you just happened to not have Homeward Bones and you re-spawned immediately at the boss fog, and about half-way back up you die.
You could risk that backtrack/re-track of the area (fall shortcut at least helps a little coming back; still got about 5 wheel skeletons down there though coming up too) as your souls are in the boss area upon reviving, or you just keep trying the boss until you beat it (or lose the souls anyway).
Or, the amazing one Anarchy brought up - Frigid Outskirts. There is no way back from the tundra area once you get there, so if you didn't have a Homeward Bone, you don't get to leave unless Lud and Zallen are dead.
In item/enemy randomizers, it is necessary. When you face an artorias on the way down, you basically have to rest at the bonfires. If you're still looking for the lordvessel, you may even have to go through the tomb of the giants and use the bonfires there and still not be able to teleport out. I've also had to scale blight town backwards numerous times.
haha - I forgot about needing the Lordvessel to fast travel (though recall King Seeker Frampt/Kathe). Almost wonder what it would be like if they kept unlocking Fast Travel was around the 50% mark in the newer ones.
Also - at least blighttown backwards gets the swamp portion out of the way initially going backwards. Mind-you, I have probably only ever gone through the area fully twice and just remember lots of the red doggos and that one insect thing blocking a path (always go Skeleton Key and Asylum > Quelag via VoD shortcut > Gargoyles) as I usually just fight the boss, get the scythe and bounce.
Though I will go do the Sewer area before Sen's Funhouse at that point. Always liked the Gaping Dragon bossfight and figure he deserves it.
I'd highly recommend trying a randomizer. It breathes new life into the game and there are so many keys that it tends to function really well. You will also learn to get good at areas you hate like those darn bonewheels! haha
What the hell is "the sewer mutant" lmao
I'm guessing its the one at the top of the rafters/platforming section in the cathedral.
