Use for certain "Recollections"?

I'm specifically talking about the Faded Whistle, Small Wooden Officer Puppet, and the Bright Red Apple. All 3 have been in my inventory for a -long- time (Like, first area), and beyond using the whistle once to get an Ergo item from a kid in a window, I haven't used any of them. What do I do with these?

Some of them are for adding lore like the Officer Puppet. An NPC will want that Red Apple in the Opera House. You're done with the faded whistle.

EDIT: One more thing to note is that the Stargazers are pretty good at tracking quests for you. If you started a quest and you obtain the quest item, the Stargazer will let you know where the nearest Stargazer is on who to give the item to. It doesn't work both ways. If you have the item but didn't start the quest, it won't show you where to go.
