If you're not familiar with souls-like games, beating him first try is pretty remarkable. Don't worry, there are some bosses that will make this guy pale in comparison. They also revisit some of his movesets later.
As far as specters go, that's up to you if you want to use them. I'd recommend trying the game without to see how you handle the challenge. But there's no shame in using them if that's what you want to do. Personally, I get a much greater sense of accomplishment not using them but that's just me.
You can stand behind the boss and just hit until they stagger.
It is more fun to play as intended with Dodge, block and perfect guard.
This goes for all Bosses even if it means several tries to get the boss moves.
Yeah, he's a fun fight, but certainly not in the list of top 3 or even 5 bosses for my favorite fight. I think you're fine to move on with your build. I never used the specters so I don't know how strong they are, but I believe they buffed them in the last patch. So they may be powerhouses now. Maybe just experiment with the next boss solo before making a decision. Also, keep in mind, you have an item that instantly kills you. If you put it on your hotbar, you can test it out and then nope out of the arena with your newfound knowledge
yeah I never really summoned in elden ring I didn't really like how easy the fights got, Idk why I thought the spectres in this game would be different.
Good luck, sir, and enjoy your journey! You're in for a pretty wild throughout the game. This has quickly risen to one of my favorite souls-style games, and my favorite of souls-like not created by Fromsoft.
