Switching to a Technique build feels like I'm gimping my self.
Title

Having played my first play through as Motivity with the Pipe wrench on the Watchman's baton, meant huge damage numbers and lots of stagger. Guard breaks were quick to build up too. I had no hassle with bosses that most other players seemed to have a hard time with.

Now I'm playing a Technique build with a maxed Twin Dragon sword which I sometimes swap out for Proof of Humanity or Tyrant dagger for variation and I miss the charged R2 staggers. The guard is lower to on these weapons too, I ended up sticking the Pipe Wrench on the Booster Glaive handle, which feels like a waste of the tech weapons I had maxed out previously to use in NG+

Blade: https://liesofp.wiki.fextralife.com/Bone-Cutting+Sawblade

and

Hilt: https://liesofp.wiki.fextralife.com/Dancer's+Curved+Sword+Handle <--- My choice
https://liesofp.wiki.fextralife.com/Bramble+Curved+Sword+Handle <--- Good alternative

My chosen Hilt is (as said above) is Dancers. I love it's moveset and speed. Bramble is a good alternative if you prefer Diagonal swings.

Edit: Dancers gets an A scaling with Tech modification

Thank you very much, I shall try those out.

Bro, try out the elemental weapons. Holy s**t that electric baton you get from the 2nd merchant shreds puppets like it's nothing. Flame dagger wasn't that bad on the monster too. First playthrough I went with Rapier into Umbrella all the way but man, I was really gimping myself there.

Yes I an relly liking that weapon. Much more effective than my sabre. Although the reach seems to be a little less.

Can I read these guard values somewhere, or is this something I have to figure out by testing?

On every weapon you see a guard regain stat I believe, so that's one metric you can see for yourself. Heavy weapons regain more of that grey HP than light weapons do. It makes blocking so viable with them. Guard regain or something it's called, should be a stat on your weapons

The amount of HP you get back is based on your vitality stat, though, I believe.

EDIT: Actually I might've confused something. I think the guard regain you see on your stat list is just the summary of how much you regain per hit, not tied to the weapon itself but your vitality. I thought the weapon mattered too.

I think the heavy weapon is just best suited for that overall guard/perfect guard because if you perfect guard, an enemy gets staggered faster when you do it with a heavy weapon. You can also break an enemy's weapon faster if your weapon is heavy, which is kinda logical. That coupled with guard regen makes guard/perfect guard with a heavy weapon very viable.

Since light weapons just don't inflict as much stagger damage, you're better off dodging more. Ofc perfect guard is still useful.

I can't find any numbers though, sorry

Block % is on the blade I believe? Generally the motivity/larger weapons have higher Block %'s. Real reason Motivity is better for guarding is because motivity weapons hit harder because they tend to attack slower. So that regain % is a % of your damage. (I think)

I went technique and have been running Booster Glaive handle with Dancer's Sword blade. It really plays into mobility. Combined with puppet string legion arm and evasion related P-organ upgrades means I can get in and out quickly.

So I practiced the crap out of the Twin Dragon sword parry. Embraced the dodge, hit and run tactic and I ended up beating the Arch bishop and Black Rabbits on the first try (in NG+)

I know they nerfed the Bishop's health, but I was still stoked.

You know the best Tech/Dex weapons are assembled, right? Twin Dragon is just a trap.

Wait, is it really? I beat the game with the Two Dragons Sword. I *really* liked the ability to fade slash and move to the side, if you'd do that to the opposite side of some boss windups, you'd completely avoid attacks and get loads of free hits in. Worked especially well on the final boss/penultimate boss's 1st form (and kinda worked on the final final boss, he had fewer 360 degree attacks, or at least didn't spam those as often on me).

What are the best assembled tech weapons? I will try that during NG+!

Don't listen to him. Maybe in terms of raw output there's a bit better, but Twin Dragons is a very high skill ceiling weapon with a ton of movement options, the parry is very familiar in frames as the dark souls parry (as you start it a bit before the attack lands) and it gives you a ton of mobility from it's weapon art, moveset etc.

I think if mastered, it's a fantastic weapon. But also high skill ceiling because there are so many things you can do with it.

I think the guy you're quoting will probably just give you a combination that gives you the highest scaling with biggest damage.
