That said: stick to it and keep trying. I'd recommend trying to figure out its sequences when you get to phase 2 for as long as you can and start working on at least blocking them if you can't perfect guard and dodging the last in the sequence to secure your punishes on it. Good luck.
Dodge into its attacks when it is performing those whirling multi-hit combos rather than guard or perfect guard. If you time the dodge correctly, it will position you behind and slightly to the right of the boss and you do not have to do anything else to avoid rest of its attack.
It is still random fight so it might take you few tries for the start to align just right but you should be able to kill it without much trouble. I bashed my head against Nameless Puppet on my first playthrough trying to guard and parry guard my way through as for most previous bosses but it was simply not working. Other bosses were made easier if you dodge rather than guarded some of its attacks but never it was this hardcoded into their attacks that you must avoid them rather than guard.
Also, make sure you are entering phase 2 with fully repaired weapon. I could not repair my weapon most of my attempts at phase 2 due to how aggressive the boss is.
PS. You have not fought Nameless puppet the first time you beat the game because you decided to give you heart to Geppeto, which resolves the ending without a fight.
Just use all the tools available. It's the final boss in a very hard game.
Get him into shocked state with the throwing cells so he at least takes more damage per hit.
I also recommend using the fully upgraded Puppet String. If you go for parries and blocks you will get pushed back a lot. With the Puppet String arm you have a gap closer with a nice heavy attack. He sometimes dodges out of the attack, but more often than not you will get some nice damage in.
Don't get greedy and go for heals and (fast) repairs instead of damage. He will wear your weapon and health down pretty quickly.
I tried the puppet string but in most cases she dodges it. It's annoying. I will try it again but actually phase one is pretty easy with Fulminis.
Phase 1 he is also pretty easy to parry. If you stay close he will mostly use his slow heavy attacks. Once you get the timing you can switch out fulminis.
He has alot of attacks you can expliot if you stray close.
Its actually one of the better bosses, if not the best in the game imo.
I'm from Germany and it's called "die namenlose Puppe" here that's why I wrote her. Actually, the gender doesn't matter at all, except for you, of course.
I don't wanna farm and spam consumables like ive seen some say, even watching speed-runners doing it but if that's the way to go to get a shot at more chieves and ng+ then so be it.
